The Institute of English and American Studies, Faculty III - Language and Cultural
Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, invites applications for a
Post as Assistant Professor* in Applied Linguistics
to commence on 1st October 2010
(E 13 TV-L, 50%) for currently 3 years
Tasks
 Research for a PhD or Habilitation in English linguistics with a focus on
language acquisition and/or formal syntax or semantics
 Participation in research projects for first, second, or third language
acquisition (especially English), or of speech / language production
 teaching in English linguistics (1 course per term)
 Participation in academic self-administration
Required
 in the case of a qualification for a PhD: an exam with an above-average
university degree in English Studies with emphasis in English Linguistics
 in the case of a qualification for a Habilitation: an above average doctorate in
English Linguistics, preferably in language acquisition
Desired are
 a specialty in language acquisition (L1 or L2/L3 or bilingualism, or language
disorders), or in formal syntax or semantics
 Knowledge of another European language (except German and English, e.g.
Russian)

I. Research
implementation of a research project in formal syntax, formal semantics, first
language acquisition, bilingual language acquisition, English as a second or third
language, (bilingual) language disorders or speech / language production
(scientific) participation in the preparation of grant proposals and in
interdisciplinary projects (DFG, etc.) in the field of language acquisition and
language disorders
participation in the organization of scientific conferences






II. Teaching
participation in teaching for the BA / MA degree programmes
teaching Focus: formal linguistics, syntax, semantics, language acquisition
advice and support for students
assisting in the recruitment of tutors and student assistants
participation in the organization of book orders etc. and our homepage
grading and examining (oral / written) in the Bachelor degree programmes




III. Other activities (in proportion to the position)
assistance in furthering international contacts and counselling of students going
abroad
participation in committees or tasks of the department
