R.E- Hinduism
Faith Street is a whole school topic studying the
religions of different people on an imaginary street.
Year 4 (and Year 2) will be studying Hinduism. Children
will learn about The Festival of Divali, the story of
Rama and Sita, and the Ramayana, one of the sacred
writings of Hinduism.
We have a trip to the Hindu temple in Preston on the
14th November, and are planning to have a guest
speaker talk to us about Hinduism.
Christianity- Light
Explore the concept of Jesus as the light of the world
and the metaphor of bringing light into people’s lives.
LITERACY
Stories with historical settings;
Deduce character’s reasons for behaviour.
Develop and refine ideas in writing and use settings and
characterisation to engage readers interest.
Stories from other cultures
Study stories from India, in particular the story of Rama
and Sita . Explore themes, characters, motives and
behaviour.
Poetry- creating images
Read poems about light and study how poets use
alliteration, similes,powerful verbs and adverbs to create
images and atmosphere.
Perform a light poem and write their own.
P.E-Dance
Hindu dance music
Learn dance moves. Use these to put
together a sequence of movements,
practice and perform their own dance,
working in small groups.

History
Our Roman topic will carry on after our
Faith Street topic, and we will also do
some work on the Vikings.
Use dates and timelines accurately.
Use evidence to describe Roman and
Viking life and the actions of Roman and
Viking people.
Present information in an appropriate
way including writing, drawing and drama
skills.
locate countries arising in historical
study of world & name them.
Science-Circuits and Conductors
Find out through experimentation what a
circuit needs to work, what materials
make good conductors, that a switch can
make or break a circuit, and how to
change the brightness of bulbs.
Music
Study Gustav Holst’s Planet Suite.
Compose music to describe a Roman
god. Mr. Kershaw, music teacher at
Longridge High, will be helping us with
our composition.

Explore and collect a selection of Hindu
Rangoli Patterns and use these to influence
own Rangoli design.
Design and make a Faith Street house
that a Hindu family might live in.
This will
involve Practising cutting precisely and
using scoring and folding techniques to
shape materials accurately.
NUMERACY
Continue to practice multiplication tables and
corresponding division facts.
Solve one and two step problems involving
numbers, time or measures.
Analyse and interpret data in tables,
diagrams, pictograms and bar charts.
Estimate, measure and record length, weight
and capacity.
Read time to the nearest minute.
Find fractions of numbers, quantities and
shapes and identify equivalent fractions
