I-405 Sepulveda Pass Widening Project Community Advisory Meeting
During a well-attended Community Advisory Committee meeting at Skirball Center
Thursday evening, April 22, 2010 the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Widening project team
described upcoming construction activities, particularly demolition of the Sunset
Boulevard Bridge, scheduled to begin in May.
The monthly meeting also included a follow-up presentation by the two artists selected
by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs to create a design for two
retaining/sound walls to be rebuilt on Sepulveda Boulevard. They displayed a revised
design based on community input.
The majority of the evening was devoted to project staff describing the upcoming
reconstruction of the Sunset Boulevard Bridge, particularly the period it will be closed,
its capacity during reconstruction and detour routes for each stage of the nine-monthlong reconstruction. In response to audience questions, project staff elaborated on its
outreach to local stakeholders and its coordination efforts with other local infrastructure
projects.
Project staff also presented graphics explaining the reconstruction of the Skirball
Bridge, scheduled for the summer. Detour plans for that activity are being completed.
Two State Assembly offices and a State Senate office was represented at the meeting,
as were the Department of Water and Power and the Department of Cultural Affairs.
Procurement Postings for Next Week
Stake Bed Trucks
Procurement will release an Invitation For Bid (IFB) next week to procure six Stake Bed
Trucks with mounted steamer units. The procurement process blackout period is
expected to run from April 30, 2010 through June 21, 2010.
This procurement will allow for the purchase of Stake Bed trucks with mounted
pressure washers so rail custodial services can maintain rail stations and platforms
clean. These trucks will be purchased directly from the manufacturer as outlined in the
specifications.
Any inquiries concerning this procurement action during the blackout period must be
directed to and may only be answered by Lily Lopez, Contract Administrator, at (213)
922-4639.
Highway Programs Planning and Deliverables Bench
Procurement will release a Request for Information and Qualification (RFIQ) next week
to establish a Highway Programs Planning and Deliverables Bench to assist in general
planning and design of multimodal transportation projects, environmental assessments,
public outreach services, project management support and surveying services. This
RFIQ will provide an opportunity for smaller firms to become prime contractors. The
procurement process blackout period is expected to run from April 26, 2010 through
October 11, 2010.
The Highway Programs Planning and Deliverables Bench will allow staff to award
projects in a shorter time period since the procurement process and qualification
reviews have already been completed. Many of the projects listed in the categories are
smaller-scale projects that once identified as needed, must be initiated and completed
in a relatively short period of time to achieve the maximum benefit of the bench. Some
projects might be integral parts of or complementary work to larger projects that are
required to be completed within the schedule constraints of the larger projects.
Any inquiries concerning this procurement action during the blackout period must be
directed to and may only be answered by Amy Wang, Sr. Contract Administrator, at
(213) 922-2632.
Synthetic Transmission Fluid
Metro will release an Invitation for Bid (IFB) next week to procure Synthetic
Transmission Fluid for the bus fleet. The procurement process blackout period is
expected to run from April 29, 2010 through July 30, 2010.
Synthetic Transmission Fluid is needed to lubricate the internal mechanisms within the
transmission. Award of a contract will provide a commitment from the supplier to ensure
availability at a fixed, competitive price.
Any inquiries concerning this procurement action during the blackout period must be
directed to and may only be answered by contract Tanya Allen, Procurement Planning
Administrator, at (213) 922-1018.
