Several events are planned throughout town for Wed. Sept. 11, 2002, to honor the victims
& heroes on the 1st anniversary of this nation's tragedy, and to celebrate patriotism and

8:45am:
Center Park. A memorial service will be held at the Flagpole in Center Park,
ending at approx. 9:15am. All are invited to a reception at Fire Headquarters, 75 Center
St., immediately following the service. Rain location for the service is Fire Headquarters.

8:45am:
Manchester Community College Band Shell Flagpoles. A memorial sojourn of
pipes and verse, in memory of the victims of Sept. 11, 2001. Bagpiper Dr. David F.
Machell and narrator Dr. Harold Schramm will offer a 20-minute solemn service to
commemorate this tragic event. The public is invited to attend.
9:15am:
Fire Headquarters, 75 Center Street. A reception & remembrance ceremony
follows the service in Center Park; it is expected to conclude at 10:30am. Manchester’s
ceremony will be part of a nationwide salute to fallen firefighters, law enforcement and

5:00pm:
Fire Station #5, 331 Tolland Tpke. A dedication of the Manchester Firefighters
Memorial Garden, which is the result of an effort embraced by members of the
Manchester Fire-Rescue-EMS Dept to acknowledge their brothers & sisters that have
made the ultimate sacrifice. Rain or Shine. Parking avail. in nearby lots. Expected to

7:00pm:
Church of Christ, 394 Lydall St. (corner of Lydall & Vernon). Memorial Service
with slide presentation and prayers, open to the public. Refreshments will follow the onehour service. 646-2903 for more info.
7:30pm:
Manchester Community College Band Shell. The Blue Angels Foundation invites
all to attend "A Night to Remember". Please join us and other members of our
community, as we gather to honor the victims of September 11th, a day that will live with

Concordia Lutheran Church. A combined memorial service presented by
Concordia, Salvation Army, Emanuel Lutheran and St. Mary's Episcopal churches of

Museums Open
Manchester Historical Society "Celebrate America's Freedoms: A Day of Remembrance."
The Manchester Historical Society will have its three museums open and free to
the public on Wednesday, September 11 to mark the anniversary of the attacks on the
United States and to celebrate the nation's freedoms.
"Celebrate America's Freedoms: A Day of Remembrance" is a nationwide effort,
led by the American Association of Museums and the Institute of Museum and Library
Services, to emphasize the role museums play as stewards of America's history and as
unique places where communities can reaffirm and examine the nation's freedoms. The
Old Manchester Museum will have a flag exhibit on display and will air the recent HBO
documentary, "In Memoriam, New York City, 9/11." The Museum, the Cheney
Homestead, and the Keeney Schoolhouse will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Less than
five minutes apart, the Old Manchester Museum is located at 126 Cedar Street, and both
the Cheney Homestead and Keeney Schoolhouse are located at 106 Hartford Road,
