university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Manager, Engineering Computing, is a global computing resource for College of Engineering
(CoEN) faculty, staff and students. The Manager is a key organizational piece for interfacing with
faculty and staff on licensing, software and hardware purchases to avoid duplication of resources in
addition to setting and communicating computing policies and procedures. The position’s duties
include the supervision and/or coordination of computer technical support staff within CoEN;
expanding policy and procedure responsibilities to encompass CoEN computing resources; serving as
the key college contact for campus IT directors and managers on university computing policies and
security issues; and serving as the main resource for college-level websites and blogs.
The position reports to the Dean, CoEN, and makes recommendations on computer related
purchases, including identification of funding sources, and consults with campus Information
Technology directors and managers on computing issues.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage
first with heading and then bulleted information).

The incumbent is expected to maintain current knowledge of hardware, software and systems
administration and convey the knowledge to faculty, professional technical staff and students. Many
issues handled are technical in nature, therefore, the Dean must rely on the judgment, knowledge and
abilities of this position. In order to align CoEN’s computing policies and procedures with those of the
University, it is necessary that this person be able to interpret, communicate and act upon
deficiencies.
Impact:
Failure to execute sound, objective, and reasonable decisions in relation to the computing operation
of CoEN would have a negative impact on CoEN in carrying out its instruction and research missions.

college’s large volume of computing usage.
