Little Stone Church (LSC) Youth Pastor Job Description May, 2012 1. Job Description a. Title: Youth Pastor b. Hours: Full time position c. Job Summary: The Youth Pastor is accountable to the members of LSC under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and Deacon Board. He would be the Youth Director and would be a member of the Church Board. d. The Youth Pastor will actively be involved in students’ spiritual lives in order to promote a solid foundation of Christian faith for our beloved students and young adults. He will engage them to unite, connect, grow, serve and become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, our Lord. e. The position will have the opportunity to shape and mold this growing ministry through the oversight of the Senior Pastor and Deacon Board. f. Qualifications i. Believe in the Bible as God’s Holy Word without errors or ambiguity (1 Cor 2:7-14, 2 Peter 1:20,21, 2 Tim 3:15-17, Genesis 1:31, 2 Cor 2:13) ii. Degrees: Bachelors degree and desire for further theological training and education. A solid knowledge of the Bible is essential. iii. Adheres to biblical principles of leaders as set forth in I Tim. 3:1-13, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5) iv. Maintain a personal relationship with God, characterized by a lifestyle of worship through prayer, Bible study, and pursuit of holiness (1Tim. 4:6) v. Experience in an established, successful youth program is preferred. vi. Must demonstrate a genuine love and maintain a good rapport with young people. vii. Must be sensitive to needs and pressures of teens with knowledge of possible solutions. viii. Must be able to teach, train, and disciple youth workers. ix. Must subscribe to the Constitution and doctrinal statement of LSC. x. Must be able to exercise initiative and judgment as an independent worker. xi. Must possess organizational and administration abilities. xii. Must be able to respond to changing needs throughout the daily and weekly schedule. 2. Job Specifications a. Program Oversight (40% of full-time commitment) i. Provide oversight of junior and senior high youth and youth staff. Assure youth groups maintain a balanced program of spiritual, physical, and 1|Page social growth. Weekly attendance of actual meetings is not expected to accomplish this task. ii. Be acquainted with personal lives of the young people (either directly or through the "Youth Staff"). For example, visit homes, attend school events, and make hospital visits. This also includes being aware of current youth development and culture. iii. Foster open communication with parents/guardians primarily through youth staff, or by other means of communication. iv. Assure every youth activity focuses entirely on building mature youth of the church. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to Youth Groups and Youth Sunday School. v. Assure the "church youth" are taught and charged with their responsibility to outreach. vi. Assure training and regular involvement of youth in church ministry. vii. Assures proper care of facilities used by youth programs. viii. Develop and implement a program to begin to reach the post high school to mid twenties that reside in the Chelan Valley. ix. Serve alongside other members of the Body of Christ in the fulfillment of the Great Commission (2Tim. 4:5, 1Tim 4:10) b. Leadership Training (40% of full-time commitment) i. Maintain effective leadership for each youth program. ii. Provide formal (structured) and informal (by example) leadership training for the youth staff. iii. Provide formal and informal forums for frequent communication, encouragement and evaluation to the youth staff. As the coach, create a team atmosphere. iv. Oversee, with youth staff, the identification of youth with leadership potential and assure opportunities are given for development. v. Evaluate and make recommendations concerning teaching materials and methods used in all of the youth programs. c. Administration (20% of full-time commitment) i. Maintain a well-planned, carefully balanced program throughout the year coordinated with the church calendar of events. ii. Assure responsibilities for all events are delegated and understood by youth staff and youth. iii. Pre-schedule all activities in their entirety, including post-activity plans. Publish same to staff, parents, and youth in a timely fashion. iv. Provide information and encourage attendance to summer camps. v. Assure monthly interaction with Church Board and weekly interaction with senior pastor for mutual accountability. vi. Assist mission's committee with field missionary experiences. vii. With the input and support of the youth ministry team, establish and maintain a philosophy of youth ministry and annual goals. 2|Page viii. Create a mission and vision for the Young Adult ministry and present a plan to the church board to reach this age range. ix. Work closely with the board to identify ministry priorities (1Peter5:1-3) x. Must have or be willing to get a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License). 3. Compensation Package a. Negotiable pending experience level i. Total up to $40k/ year ii. Depending on successful candidate’s needs, compensation may be allocated to: 1. Salary 2. Medical Insurance 3. Housing Allowance 4.
