The qualification has an optional strand in Reproduction to recognise the specialist nature of breeding activities. Learners who work on breeding farms may choose to complete the additional strand in reproduction. Employees will benefit by having improved skills which would enable the industry to remain internationally competitive, and also enhance their own employment opportunities across the pork industry. The community will benefit by having trained people who are able to manage biosecurity risks and waste management within their workplaces and thereby reducing the potential to negatively affect the wider community and nation. Graduates will be working under general supervision and may be collaborating with others in the team. Graduates of the Reproduction strand will also be able to: – Assist with procedures from pre-farrowing to weaning. Page 1 of 5 Education pathway This qualification can build on the New Zealand Certificate in Primary Industry Skills (Level 2) [Ref: 2218], or the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (Level 2) with Vocational Pathways Primary Industries endorsement; and may lead on to the New Zealand Certificate in Pork Production (Section Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 2524]. The Reproduction strand of this qualification can lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Pork Production (Advanced Husbandry) (Level 4) [Ref: 2526]. Employment pathway Holders of this certificate will be able to operate as a stockperson in a pork production unit. Graduates can progress to roles as a section manager, with responsibility for one section within a pork production unit with varying responsibilities depending on farm structure. Graduates of the reproduction strand can also progress to roles as husbandry specialists, to improve production in several sections or across the pork production unit. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by the Primary ITO as the qualification developer and the industry training organisation arranging training leading to the qualification under section 5 of the Industry Training Act and Apprenticeships Act 1992. This qualification may also be awarded by an education organisation which has, under section 249 of the Education Act 1989, a programme approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) or which has been accredited, under section 250, to provide an approved programme. The formal document certifying the award of this qualification will display the NZQF logo and may also include the name and/or logo of the awarding education organisation. Requirements for assuring consistency All TEOs either arranging training or delivering programmes that lead to the award of the qualification are required to participate in a consistency process scheduled by NZQA. New requirements for assuring consistency of graduate outcomes are being developed. Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning arrangements Education organisations must have policies and procedures in place for managing credit transfer, and assessing recognition of prior learning and recognition of current competency. These policies and procedures, and information about associated fees, must be available to the candidate prior to enrolment. To facilitate credit transfer, education organisations must clearly demonstrate the equivalency or comparability between each of the outcomes in the graduate profile, and the assessment components of their programmes. Minimum standard of achievement and standards for grade endorsements The minimum standard of achievement required for award of the qualification will be the achievement of all graduate outcomes in the graduate profile through successful completion of an NZQA approved programme. Entry requirements (including prerequisites to meet regulatory body or legislative requirements) There are no mandatory prerequisites to meet regulatory body, or legislative requirements for this qualification. Mandatory Optional Transition information Replacement information This qualification replaces the National Certificate in Pork Production (Senior Stockperson - Husbandry) (Level 3) [Ref: 1560] and the National Certificate in Pork Production (Senior Stockperson - Reproduction) (Level 3) [Ref: 1561]. The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2017. The last date for award of the replaced qualification is 31 December 2018. It is the intention of Primary ITO that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
