Calling the Gold Coast Home
Davenport Neighborhood Welcomes Prospective Homebuyers September 23rd
People living in Davenport’s Gold Coast know their neighborhood is a pretty special place
and has been since Antoine LeClaire included many of its streets in his plat of the new
town of Davenport back in 1836. That’s why they are inviting home buyers to join them for
a homes-for-sale open house on Sunday, September 23 from 12N-4PM.
“Calling the Gold Coast Home” will feature a number of residences currently for sale in
Davenport’s Hamburg Historic District, popularly known as the Gold Coast, whose
boundaries are 5th to 9th and Ripley to Vine Streets. Currently, nine properties are
scheduled to be open for review. The event is being sponsored by the Gold CoastHamburg Historic District Association and is the first ever public homes-for-sale open
house sponsored by the group.
The neighborhood, located on the hills above downtown Davenport, features spectacular
Mississippi River views, as well as homes varied in historical style, square footage and
price range. In 2011, it was designated as one of 10 Great Neighborhoods by the
American Planning Association. The APA honors places of “exemplary character, quality
and planning.” It is the first neighborhood in Iowa to receive this award.
In addition to the open houses, the free event will include an information center located on
the grounds of “The Castle,” one of the neighborhood’s best loved historic homes. There,
people viewing homes will be able to pick up a listing sheet of all open house addresses as
well as gather additional information about the neighborhood, speak with financial officers,
and learn about various agency, city and state homeowner incentives.
