TO: FROM: SUBJECT: All Students Participating in Commencement Mr. Kotch and Mrs. Anselmino 2015 Commencement Participation in Commencement is a privilege, not a right. Much of the success of Commencement rests with YOU, the student. By volunteering to participate in Commencement you agree to abide by the dress code and all rules described below. Any senior who is disruptive or not properly attired will lose the privilege of participation. When and Where to Report All students participating in Commencement are to report to the high school by 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015. All students driving to Commencement must enter via Billott Avenue and park in the band practice lot. If you are getting dropped off by a parent before 6:00 p.m., you should enter via Buttermilk Hollow Road (the main entrance “S” bend) and enter through the front doors of the school. Students should report to their assigned staging area upon entering the building. Accepted Dress It is your responsibility to make certain that your gown is presentable for the ceremony. Your gown should be ironed with a cool iron to remove the creases caused by packaging. In order to participate in the graduation exercises, you must be dressed in the following manner: After moving to the stadium, you will have to do relatively little except be respectful and attentive until it is time to receive the diploma case. As you approach Mr. Choby or Mr. Shigle, hand your 3 x 5 card to Mr. Choby or Mr. Shigle, who will call your name as you move across the front to receive the diploma case. After you receive the diploma case, you will return to your seat. After the Ceremony Following the ceremony, all members of the Class of 2015 will return to their respective assigned rooms. Mr. Kotch will instruct the homeroom supervisor when to distribute or withhold certain diplomas. You will be given your diploma to place into the diploma case and then you will be dismissed. (Make sure you have your diploma before leaving the classroom.) Miscellaneous Girls: a light colored dress or skirt, white or light colored shoes A professionally made videotape of the ceremony will be made available. Individual Commencement photos taken as you receive your diploma can also be purchased. Information concerning this video and photo opportunity will be emailed to you. Order forms are also available on the high school website. Click on the Activities tab and select Senior Class. preferably with some kind of heel. Dress sandals will be acceptable. Nothing should hang below the length of the gown. (no pants, jeans, tennis shoes, flip-flop sandals, sunglasses, etc.) Please address any questions to Mrs. Anselmino, Senior Class Advisor, or Mr. Kotch, High School Principal. Boys: white dress shirt (with collar), dark or dark-striped tie, dark dress slacks and dark dress shoes with dark socks (no tennis shoes, jeans, sandals, sunglasses, etc.) Absolutely no non-school issued items may adorn your cap and/or gown. Reminder You will be issued a sheet of 6 blue tickets for admission to the Commencement ceremony. Five (5) of these tickets may be used for admission to the stadium or the gymnasium. One (1) ticket is marked for stadium admission ONLY. No one will be admitted to the gymnasium without the proper ticket. A closed circuit TV broadcast of the indoor ceremony may be viewed in the auditorium by nonticket holders. Requests for handicapped seating passes must be turned in to the Main Office by Thursday, May 14, 2015. Handicapped seating passes are not valid for admission; they are for handicapped seating only. Guests will need both a blue admission ticket and a red handicapped seating pass to view Commencement from the handicapped seating areas. Procedure When you arrive in your assigned room, you will be instructed where to take your place in the processional line. When you are ready to form the line, the person in charge will give you a 3 x 5 card with your name printed on it. You must keep this card with you at all times throughout the ceremony until it is time to move to receive your diploma case. Failure to keep the 3 x 5 card may result in you not being recognized properly. Do not bend, crease, or rip the card. Seniors will be permitted to drive to school that day. All students are required to park on the band’s practice field. After parking, students will enter the building through the entrance located near the athletic director’s office (Door #26) and proceed straight to the auditorium. The Vespers service for the Class of 2015 will be held Wednesday, May 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Seniors’ participation in this service, like Commencement, is “on a voluntary basis.” Students should report directly to the old gymnasium by 6:30 p.m. dressed in standard Commencement attire (see other side of this sheet). Honor cords (CWCTC, Honor Society, and Honor Graduate) are not to be worn at this time. No non-school issued adornments are permitted on your cap and/gown. The Vespers ceremony is very different from the Commencement ceremony because it is completely planned and conducted by members of the Senior Class in a spirit of caring and respect for you, their classmates. It is an evening of reflection, meditation, and inspiration for the graduating class. All seniors, their families, and friends are welcome to attend. No tickets are necessary for admittance. Commencement Friday, May 22, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Commencement practice will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22. Seniors will be permitted to drive to school these days. Students are to park in the student lot,(the main lot, beginning closest to the tennis courts). After parking, students should report directly to the stadium. Students will not be permitted to enter the high school building. Obligations and fines must be paid at the completion of Commencement practice. Honor cords will also be distributed at the conclusion of practice. Each graduate will be given one sheet of tickets at the practice on Thursday, May 21st. Five of the six tickets may be used for admission to the stadium (outdoor ceremony) or the gymnasium (indoor ceremony). The sixth ticket may ONLY be used for admission to the stadium. No one will be admitted to the gymnasium without the proper ticket. If graduation is held indoors, those without a proper ticket will be able to view the Commencement ceremony by way of a closed-circuit TV in the auditorium. Any senior student who is not going to participate in Commencement should give his/her name to Mrs. Anselmino in Room 201. Those not participating will be able to pick up their diplomas in the high school office beginning May 27, 2015, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Any student who would like to request a handicapped seating pass should pick up a form in Main Office beginning May 1, 2015 and return it to the Main Office by May 14, 2015. NO REQUESTS will be filled after this date. Turn in your requests early.
