GCCP Commencement: Frequently Asked Questions When is Commencement 2013? Saturday, June 15, 10:00 AM to 12:00 NOON Jones Convocation Center, Chicago State University 9501 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. Who participates in June Commencement? Seniors who have met all graduation requirements will participate in June Commencement. Seniors who must enroll in summer school to meet academic, discipline, enrichment, community service, college exploration, fitness, and/or health requirements will participate in August Commencement. When is the rehearsal? Commencement rehearsal will be done in three parts: 1) as a part of the Senior Retreat the week before the ceremony, 2) Friday, June 14th during cap and gown pick-up (time TBD), and 3) 8am-10am before Commencement begins on Saturday, June 15th. All rehearsals are mandatory. How do I get tickets for Commencement? Seniors graduating in June will receive 5 complimentary tickets during cap/gown distribution on June 14. Additional tickets will be available for $25. Seniors graduating in August will receive 1 complimentary ticket for the June 15 ceremony. Why are additional tickets 25$? Noble Street Charter School graduation ceremonies are intended to be relatively small and designed as a celebration primarily for parents, guardians, GCCP faculty, special guests, and immediate family members. Families are encouraged to host their own parties and open houses for the student’s extended family and friends. What is the “Student Commencement Contract?” In order to participate in Commencement, all graduates and a parent/guardian must read and sign this contract which outlines specific behavioral expectations for graduates and families. Copies of the contract will be attached to the next Announcement in May. Will students give speeches during the ceremony? Yes, in addition to short welcomes by the class Valedictorian and Salutatorian, 2-3 students will also give commencement speeches. Auditions will happen in May. Further details will be announced during Advisory. How will students be recognized for honors? Students with (weighted and cumulative) will be recognized with a cord. will be indicated in the program. National Honors Society a stole. Please note that nothing should be attached to a school-provided cords and stoles. a final GPA of 3.5 or above Students with the top ten GPA’s Members will be recognized with student’s cap or gown besides Will any students sing during Commencement? All musical selections will be performed by the GCCP Choraliers and the Senior Ensemble. Seniors interested in participating in the Senior Ensemble must contact Jamal Brown. Final musical selections will be up to the discretion of the choir director. What will happen after Commencement? Immediately after the student recessional, a reception will be begin at Chicago State University. Cap/gown return and diploma pick-up will begin 15 minutes after the reception begins. Cake and light refreshments will be served. When will students receive diplomas? Students will only be handed diploma covers on stage during the ceremony.
