SUBJECT: Probationary Faculty Research Summer Support Program
Program Description: The College of Humanities Probationary Faculty Research Support
Program is intended to provide support for scholarly research/creative activity. Funding has
been established to support summer research projects for probationary faculty who provide
acceptable proposals and are recommended to the Dean by a faculty committee, chaired by the
Associate Dean. The Dean will be responsible for final selection and approval.
Goal of the Program: The goal of this fellowship program is to provide faculty with summer
research stipends to support their scholarly and/or creative work early in their CSUN career.
Instructions: Proposal should not exceed 300 words. Completed proposals are due in the
Dean’s office no later than November 6, 2015. The proposals should include cover sheet
with signatures, and explain how the summer research stipend will support your ongoing
research, including how the research may be used in your classroom instruction and/or in
presentations or publications which might result from the project. Probationary faculty may
apply annually for a $3000 summer stipend beginning with their second summer at
CSUN until award of tenure. Faculty members who are teaching summer session are not
eligible for the research stipend. Ten awards will be granted each year.
Criteria for Scholarly Research/Creative Activity Proposals: Support for scholarly research
or creative projects must be used for new writing projects, works in progress, development of
conference papers, manuscript preparation, or similar work that will contribute to the
professional development of the faculty member.
Reporting of Fellowship Activity: Fellows are required to file a report (due the first week of
the Fall 2016 semester), detailing research conducted and other fellowship activities. Fellows
must acknowledge the College of Humanities support in any publications proceeding from the
research.
Announcement of College of Humanities Fellows: Fellowship winners will be announced on
Monday, November 23, 2015.
