* Students under the age of 18 who enroll in this course must provide a notarized letter from a parent or legal guardian authorizing the instructor to supervise the student’s travel outside the United States.
Course description: sites students will visit, description of course content and goals, description of instructional method (e.g. lectures on-site, class meetings prior to travel, reading, etc.), assignments, means of assessment, eligibility, general description of accommodations and transportation, including any activities that would be difficult for someone with a medical condition, disability, or who is in poor physical condition. It is not necessary at this time to provide a course syllabus.
NOTICE TO STUDENTS:
Please inform the instructor/s at the time of your deposit of any medical or psychological condition that may affect your full participation in this course. Also please inform instructor/s of any dietary restrictions. Instructors may require that students sign a consent to treatment form.
Some instructors require students to sign a code of conduct prior to departure.
Violation of the code of conduct may be grounds for the student to return to the
U.S. or receive a failing grade for the course.
All students who participate in a Mary Baldwin College May Term course abroad are required to have adequate health insurance. Instructors may ask for documentation of students’ insurance coverage.
By submitting a deposit to participate in a May Term course abroad, Mary
Baldwin College students and others assume full risk for costs associated with trip cancellation due to illness, weather, acts of terrorism, or extreme changes in currency values. Instructors will make every effort to return participants’ deposits when possible. Instructors may require students to sign an agreement of responsible travel.
FINANCIAL AID FOR MAY TERM STUDY ABROAD
Students seeking financial aid for May Term study should speak with a representative of the Financial Aid office to determine their eligibility. Mary Baldwin College offers travel stipends for May Term abroad study only for eligible Global Honors Scholars. For information about a limited number of travel scholarships available through Mary
Baldwin College and competitive national study abroad scholarships, please speak with the Director of International Programs or visit the Spencer Center for Civic and Global
Engagement.
