EVALUATION LANGUAGE - CASL An assessment of receptive and expressive language skills was conducted. The following is a summary of the test results. The Comprehensive Assessment of Spoken Language, Form 2 (CASL) is a norm-referenced oral language assessment battery of tests that provides information about oral language skills that children and adolescents need to become literate as well as to succeed in school and in the work environment. Comprehension of Basic Concepts Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures auditory comprehension of words that refer to basic perceptual and conceptual relations. Poor performance may indicate difficulties understanding the language of directions in school. Antonyms Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures word knowledge, retrieval, and oral expression in a linguistically decontextualized environment. Poor performance may indicate difficulties with academic language. Synonyms Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures knowledge of the meaning of spoken words in a linguistically decontextualized environment. Poor performance may indicate an inadequate vocabulary. Sentence Completion Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures word knowledge, retrieval, and oral expression in a linguistic context. Poor performance may indicate difficulty retrieving precise vocabulary to describe events. Idiomatic Language Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures knowledge, retrieval, and oral expression of idioms. Incomplete idiom knowledge will cause individuals to substitute similar but incorrect words in forming an idiom, thereby causing communication problems with others. Syntax Construction Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures oral expression of words, phrases, and sentences using a variety or morphosyntactic rules Paragraph Comprehension of Syntax Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures auditory comprehension of syntax in spoken narratives Grammatical Morphemes Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures metalinguistic knowledge and use of the form and meaning of grammatical morphemes Grammaticality Judgment Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures judgment of and ability to correct the grammar of sentences Nonliteral Language Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures the understanding of the meaning of spoken messages independent of the literal interpretation of the surface structure. Inference Percentile: Standard Score: This task measures use of previously acquired world knowledge to derive meaning from inferences in spoken language.
