ICT, Inc. International Center of Topeka, Inc. Mission Statement The mission of the International Center of Topeka, Inc. (ICT, Inc.) is to foster interest in international and intercultural issues through educational, cultural and social programs in service to the Washburn University campus and the Greater Topeka community. History of ICT, Inc. International House 1700 SW College Avenue Washburn University Topeka, KS 66621 Tel: 785-670-1051 The International Center of Topeka, Inc. was incorporated in April, 1980 as a community membership organization interested in international and intercultural affairs. It came about as a result of the activities of several local ethnic organizations and an interest in striking a closer connection with Washburn University, particularly with international students. The organization is housed in the International House on the Washburn campus. Current membership includes community leaders, professionals, Washburn faculty and individuals interested in international affairs. Programs of ICT, Inc. Brown Bag International Lecture Series The Office of International Programs invite speakers from Washburn University and the Topeka community, and occasional international guest speakers come and share their international experiences and perspectives. Normally, six to eight lectures are scheduled for each semester. The lectures are on Wednesdays at noon. English for the Foreign-Born Since 1972, volunteers have been helping Washburn international students and area immigrants with their English and to adapt to new challenges in a new living environment. The tutorial program meets every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon in the International House during the regular semester. This service is free and open to the public. the home was deeded to the University and is now the center for international programming both for Washburn University and the Topeka community. ICT, Inc. Name___________________________ The International House Built in 1931 by Dr. and Mrs. Parley P. Womer, the home was for several years the private residence of the former Washburn president and his wife. After their deaths, The house features a magnificent living room, 44 by 22 feet with a balcony on two sides, huge fireplace and beamed ceiling. Dark wood and black wrought iron of the balustrade and the chandelier enhance the Spanish architecture. Cultural artifacts and art works from many countries are displayed throughout the house. A fully equipped and modern kitchen enables guests at the International House to be entertained with formal dinners, teas, receptions or simples refreshments.
