The Library Information Librarian (Chartered): Academic Services GRADE 6: 10.3 hours per week, semester only (33 weeks p.a) Job Description The main areas of responsibility are: 1) To contribute to the work of Academic Services in the planning, standardisation and effective exploitation of library resources for the benefit of the University community. 2) To directly support the work of the Faculty and Subject Librarians in one of three Faculties within the University, as directed by the appropriate Faculty Librarian. The special duties of an Information Librarian (Chartered) in Academic Services are to work alongside a Subject or Faculty Librarian and under their supervision to undertake a range of duties, where appropriate to part time working at 10.3 hours per week 33 weeks per annum. Duties may include: to support Faculty and Subject Librarians in collection development and management o coordinate & place book orders through liaison with academics o stock editing & withdrawal, making informed decisions regarding collection management to support Faculty and Subject Librarians in teaching and developing teaching materials o compile/develop teaching materials o maintain Moodle courses o deliver teaching sessions to deputise for Faculty and Subject Librarians as required o undertake more specialist enquiries, e.g. in support of research o assist with routine enquiries from academic departments o make decisions on resource balance e.g. loan category changes in SL's absence o deputise/represent the Library at departmental meetings, e.g. SSLCs as required to provide services for all students, including distance learning students and students with disabilities e.g. o advise on access to materials when living/studying off campus o advise on availability of accessible library resources for students with disabilities to respond to information and resource enquiries in support of library users’ needs o develop a measure of expertise in one or more specialist subject areas to train other members of staff in enquiry work and other library skills o in classification as 'senior classifier' o passing on good practice appropriate to staffing a library information point to design library publicity and library publications to promote library services o write new library guides KMR/15/02/2016 o o monitor/review currency of existing guides & update as necessary to support effective communication channels between the Library and its users to classify and reclassify library resources as required o classify new acquisitions o as part of stock editing/review, reclassify stock where present classification is inadequate to work 2-5 on Sunday afternoons during semester on a general enquiry point as the senior member of library staff on duty o to supervise the Sunday Library Assistants o to act as a link between the weekend and daytime services, ensuring service levels are maintained o to trouble-shoot as required to keep abreast of trends in higher education, librarianship and information science, and relevant technological developments. o to consider and recommend new initiatives for the Library which may arise from such developments to carry out other duties as assigned by the Faculty Librarian and the Head of Academic Services KMR/15/02/2016 Person Specification This post is designed for qualified librarians after gaining Chartership with CILIP, thereby demonstrating enhanced evaluative and professional skills.
