West Glamorgan Crimebeat is an exciting scheme that was launched by the
High Sheriff of West Glamorgan in 1997 and is supported by South Wales
Police and partnership agencies to help young people develop projects to make their community a safer place in which to live. The scheme aims to give young people aged from pre school up to 25 an opportunity to help combat crime, promote good citizenship and to keep more young people out of trouble.
The maximum grant for each application is £500. Quotes of costs may be required when returning the application form.
New and Innovative projects are especially welcomed.
To cut local crime and keep young people out of trouble
To support victims of crime
To stimulate an interest in voluntary work
To help strengthen local communities
To improve school attendance and behaviour
To improve the quality of life
To cut local crime and or to prevent young people being involved in crime and
Anti Social behaviour. This could include:-
Providing local solutions to local problems.
Dealing with a particular issue like alcohol, drug, or solvent abuse.
Dealing with racial attacks or bullying.
Fighting problems within a particular establishment such as school, youth club, etc.
Helping existing groups, such as shopkeepers, to deal with crime.
Improving opportunities and facilities for young people in their local communities;
Or any other similar activities that meet the objectives.

The fund is available for:-
Community based groups that work or wish to work with young people.
Schools
Colleges
Youth clubs
Voluntary groups working with young people
N.B. The applying group must have a bank account with a minimum of two signatories.
This could include:
Equipment*;
rent;
overheads;
transport costs;
sessional worker hours;
training;
Clothing*;
*TWO quotes will be required for these items.
N.B. The grant will NOT fund day trips unless it is part of a larger ongoing project.
If the application is approved a short report must be submitted to the
Crimebeat Committee at the end of the project evaluating the success of the project, including relevant performance information, a feedback sheet and statement of accounts.

CRIMEBEAT – WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
CRIMEBEAT encourages groups of young people from pre school to twenty-five to set up a project in their community that will help to prevent crime, reduce crime or improve community safety.
THE GROUP SHOULD:-
• Identify any problems in their community that can be related to crime or community safety.
• Choose one of the problems identified.
• Find a practical, achievable solution to that problem.
• If there is a cost involved in carrying out the project fill out the application form for funding from Crimebeat.
To qualify for funding of up to a maximum amount of £500 per project the following criteria must be met: -
• If members of the group are aged under eighteen, the group must have the support of an adult. For example a youth worker, teacher or community group leader.
• The project must have a significant element of crime prevention, crime reduction or community safety.
• The members of the group must be actively involved in carrying out the project.
• The project should aim to promote young people as valued members of the community.
A selection panel will consider the application, if the criteria are met,
Crimebeat will award the funding to the group so that they can put their ideas into action. Groups will be required to fill in a feedback sheet on completion of the project.
