2012 COW/CALF AND PROSPECT MARKET CALF SHOW
St. Paul, MN (8/23/12) - There was a total of 568 beef cattle shown at the 4-H Beef
Show. There were 37 cow/calf pairs and 32 prospect calves exhibited in the Beef Cow/Calf
Show. Judging this year’s Breeding Beef Show contest was Tom Farrer of Royal Center, Indiana.
Farrer and his family own and operate Farrer Stock Farms, which was established in 1947, and
raises Shorthorn, Angus, and crossbred cattle. Farrer is a veteran livestock judge, judging in over 27
states and Canada, and has been fortunate to evaluate the national shows of three breeds of
cattle in recent years.
The overall Grand Champion Cow/Calf was the Angus pair shown by Nicholas Krog of
Lincoln County and the overall Reserve Champion was the Simmental shown by Grant Brass of
Olmsted County.
The Grand Champion Prospect Calf was a steer exhibited by Paige Netzke of Redwood County
and the Reserve Champion Prospect Calf was a heifer shown by Logan Kluis of Murray County.
The animals showed on the first day of the fair Thursday, August 23rd. Selection of the overall
winners was made during the 33rd Annual Beef Championship on Friday afternoon in the Minnesota
State Fair Coliseum.
