THIRD GRADE RELIGION CURRICULUM
New Church Unit: THE COMING OF THE NEW CHURCH WAS PROPHESIED
Revelation 1:1-Revelation 22:21
Suggested time: 2+ weeks
UNIT THEME: Many visions in Revelation are prophecies of the New Church.
UNIT OVERVIEW:
The book of Revelation describes many wonderful images in the mind of the reader. Highlighted in The
Story of Revelation are age-appropriate segments from this book of the Word. The Lord is to be seen as the
Creator, lawgiver, Savior, omnipresent, all-powerful being through the visions John sees while on the Isle of
Patmos.
In keeping with the third grade focus on prophecies, it is important to note how the book of Revelation
prophesies the Lord’s Second Coming.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
The students will:
1. Learn that the good prevail over the evil because good comes from the Lord.
2. Know and feel that the Lord loves them, the Lord teaches them, He fights evil for them and does miracles.
3. Learn that the stories of Revelation tell about the Lord’s Second Coming – the New Church.
4. Begin to understand that the Lord came on earth the second time in the Heavenly Doctrines (Writings).
5. Begin to be aware of how each part of the Word has the same purpose of helping people choose a good life on
earth and in heaven.
6. Review that the Lord will fight for them if they trust and obey Him. (Relate to unit 9)

The unhewn stone struck the feet of the statue and it broke into
pieces.
The stone became a large mountain and filled the earth.
A prophecy of the New Church (the unhewn stone) succeeding the
four previous Churches. (see True Christian Religion 788)
The four animals stand for truths in the Word.
John saw the Lord sitting on a throne with a green rainbow around
the throne and a sea of glass in front.
Around the main throne were twenty-four elders, each sitting in their
own throne.
The four creatures were a lion, a calf, a man’s face, and a flying
eagle. Each creature had six wings and many eyes.
The angel represents the Lord and the little book represents the
Word.
The angel put his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land.
John ate the little book and it was sweet as honey in his mouth and
bitter in his stomach.
The two witnesses stand for good people who believe in the Lord and
live a good life. Apocalypse Revealed 490. They are rejected (killed)
by evil people (the beast).
After 3 ½ days the Lord took the witnesses up to heaven.
The temple in heaven was opened and the ark was seen in the temple.
The woman stands for the Lord's New Church in the heavens, and on
earth, another beautiful picture and idea.
The Lord protected the woman and her Child.
Michael and his angels throw the dragon out of heaven.
The white horse stands for the spiritual sense of the Word and the
One sitting upon it is the Lord.

CORE KNOWLEDGES

John saw the Holy City coming down out of heaven, prepared as a
bride—a prophecy of the New Church coming on the earth.


The light from the Holy City was like clear jasper stone.
There was a high wall around the square city with 3 gates on each
side and 12 angels at the gates.
The foundations were precious stones.
The gates of the city were never shut.
The throne was in the middle of the city.
The river of life ran out from the throne.
The tree of life had twelve different fruits, one for each month.
If we follow the Lord’s commandments, we will get to live in the
Holy City.
The twelve disciples were sent out all over the spiritual world.
This passage is where we get the date for the celebration of New
Church Day.

third animal having a face like a man," signifies the Divine truth of the Word as to wisdom (n. 243). "And the fourth
animal was like a flying eagle," signifies the Divine truth of the Word as to knowledges and thence understanding (n.
244). Verse 8. "And the four animals each by himself had six wings about him," signifies the Word as to its powers
and as to its guards (n. 245). "And they were full of eyes within," signifies the Divine Wisdom in the Word in its
natural sense from its spiritual and celestial sense (n. 246). "And they had no rest day and night, saying, `Holy, holy,
holy, Lord God Almighty,'" signifies that the Word continually teaches the Lord, and that He alone is God, and thence

ages," signifies that the Lord alone is life, and that life eternal is from Him alone (n. 250). Verse 10.
