NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF PAKISTAN
DESCRIPTIVE LIST
Records of Ministries/Divisions/Departments
Interior Division
Government of Pakistan
Department of Archives
Islamabad.
1986
INTRODUCTION
One of the main functions of the National Archives of Pakistan is preservation of
“A” Category files of various Ministries/Divisions of the Government of Pakistan. As such
the Secretariat instructions call for transfer of all such records from Ministries/Divisions to
the national Archives. About a dozen Ministries/Divisions have so far transferred some of
their “A” Category files to the National Archives for permanent preservation. The files so
far transferred to the Department covers a space near about 368 linear feet (more than ten
thousand files). The Accession List of the files of the Ministry of Finance has already been
published. The publication in hand lists the “A” category files of the Interior Division,
which are 552 (22 linear feet).
2
Since the Government records are not presently open for research, the publication of
such lists will be useful only to the Ministries/Divisions concerned as well as the National
Archives for retrieval and reference purposes. Similar lists will be published in the near
future.
3.
The files have been arranged Section/branch wise with an archival number allotted to
each of them. The original files number has also been retained with a view to facilitating the
retrieval of files by either number.
4.
This publication has been compiled by Mr. Muhammad Ramzan, Assistant Archivist
who has put in hard work and effort in its preparation.
