Position Description
Principal Flood Engineer
The Brisbane office of BMT WBM is currently recruiting for the position of Principal Flood Engineer to join
a team of approximately 12 specialist flood engineers working on a wide range of flooding and floodplain
management studies. Depending on level of experience, your roles and responsibilities will include:




Directing a range of large and complex flooding projects using in-house developed flood
modelling packages such as TUFLOW as well as other industry software;
Contributing to the ongoing successful operation of the Flood Group through assistance with
business planning and development;
Liaising and collaborating with the broader BMT WBM organisation, within both flood related and
multi-disciplinary fields, with other Australian offices and internationally;
Mentoring of junior staff and the development of new innovations in the provision of specialist
flood consultancy services.
Your work will be challenging and will require innovative and pragmatic thinking, as well as proven project
management and leadership skills. To be successful, applicants will have some or all of the following:









10 to 15+ years experience in flood modelling, floodplain risk management, flood impact and
mitigation assessments, and/or related fields;
Relevant tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering or equivalent;
Exceptional capabilities and experience in managing complex flood studies and floodplain risk
management studies;
Have a keen interest in identifying, developing and applying leading edge technology and
innovative approaches;
Demonstrate a willingness and capability to manage, motivate and inspire staff under your
responsibility;
Demonstrate an ability to help lead and enhance a team or business unit;
Be capable of working well within a team environment;
Have excellent oral and written communication skills;
Postgraduate qualifications or research experience in a relevant field such as flood hydraulics,
hydrology or floodplain management.
