Department: Respiratory Care Therapy
Description: Responsible for the daily operations and productivity of subordinates work performance. Determine work assignments, priorities, and procedures for subordinates.
Evaluate and/or provide input assuring competency assessments and performance evaluations timely. Provide departmental orientation and training for new employees. Handle disciplinary matters, conferring with the Director of Ancillary Services and/or Human Resource Services as the need arises. Conduct employee applicant interviews, recommending selection for vacancy or promotion. Conduct departmental meetings with staff. Maintain the Blood Gas Lab according to CAP and CLIA regulations. Pre-op pulmonary function evaluation and instruction. Assist with the asthma management and the education of asthma patients. Participate in performance improvement activities and continuing education to maintain proficiency, competency, and increase knowledge. Basic maintenance of all cardiopulmonary equipment. Perform EKG,
Holtor monitoring, and stress testing. Participate and ensure subordinate staff participation in hospital emergency preparedness efforts. Perform artificial ventilation, including total ventilator management, mask and nasal continuous positive airway pressure ventilation and assist with
Endotracheal intubation and extubation. Perform arterial punctures for blood gas analysis. All modes of oxygen therapy. All modes of aerosol therapy. All hyperinflation therapy. All tracheostomy care and intra-Tracheal suctioning. Answers all “House Staff Blue” calls and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current Louisiana
Respiratory Therapist license and national accreditation as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, plus four years of licensed respiratory therapy work.
