St Richard’s Dominican Friary, Pontefract - 1256 to 1538
This reconstruction of what we think the Friary looked like from this viewpoint in about
1400 has been drawn by Ron Wilson and is based on evidence from excavations by
Pontefract Archaeological Society in 1963 just before Pontefract General Infirmary was
built, and in 2011 and 2012, after it was demolished.
This reconstruction of the Friary viewed from the north of Friarwood Valley (now Southgate) in around 1400, has been drawn
by Ron Wilson, based on evidence from archaeological digs by Pontefract Archaeological Society in 1963, just before
Pontefract General Infirmary was built, and in 2011 and 2012, after it was demolished.
