STALLION AI SERVICES LTD “ Using the la test technolog y in equine breeding” FRESH AND CHILLED COLLECTION SERVICE 2008 We can take the hassle out of the breeding season by collecting and distributing your stallion’s semen for you anywhere in the UK. This service is for stallion owners to walk in or to stand stallions at the centre for fresh and chilled insemination. This service has been extremely popular with stallion owners as it offers a wider scope for the distribution of semen across the UK, with excellent fertility results, as well as avoiding risks such as injury or cross contamination which can be associated with stallions covering live mares. Advantages of using the Centre First, we provide a safe and controlled environment for semen collection with a team of trained staff. Second, collecting and assessment of semen quality and freezing on site offers the chance of freezing only the highest quality of semen. Thirdly, because your stallion is away from his normal surroundings he is unlikely to associate semen collection with life at home and should return to his normal routine quickly when you collect him. Stallion semen collection is carried out at a ministry approved collection centre in Whitchurch, Shropshire. The centre boasts the latest technology which is admired by equine breeders worldwide as well as an enviable wealth of experience and resources. About the Centre The collection centre is divided into 3 separate colour coded quarantine units which can take up to 20 stallions at any one time. All stallions arriving at the centre have to complete a pre-entry health check before arriving. This is essential to ensure that the semen is disease free for the protection of all horses visiting the unit. Adjacent to the quarantine unit are a number of spacious grass paddocks in which the stallions can be turned out individually for part of the day. Two 8 foot high fenced paddocks are also available for even the most ambitious of stallions. Horse Welfare Physical fitness can be of paramount importance to the competition stallion. In addition to turnout, horse walker and lungeing facilities are available. Welfare of the stallions is our number one priority, and you can rest assured that your horse will be well looked after and closely supervised for the duration of his stay. We have the facility to weigh stallions and monitor weight gains and losses. . Semen collection is carried out in the safe environment of the collection area. The floor is rubberised, making it safe for both the stallions and handlers. In addition to a dummy, there are also a number of teaser mares available which have been specially selected for their placid temperament and quiet nature. Owners have the option to bring stallions in for collection or leave at the centre for the season. 2008 Charges We do not take any percentage of the stud fee but just charge livery to the stallion owner, and collection and distribution fees to the mare owner. See charges below: Stallion livery per day £25 per day for over 3 months £27.50 per day for 1-2 months £30 per day under 1 month The Mare owner is responsible for the cost of collection, hire of shipping container and postage. Collection Fee for fresh semen £60.00 per collection Collection Fee for chilled/shipped semen £80.00 per collection Hire of shipping container Free for first 3days (£10/day thereafter) Postage and packaging £17 - £22.00 (Saturday: £45) (Depending on type and weight of shipping container) Same day delivery Service Carriage of shipping container with TNT Private door to door courier Approx. £110.00 (available 7 days per week) £1.10 per mile one way All prices are subject to VAT except for livery charges There are problems with Datapost and other carriers with a guaranteed next day delivery service of the shipping container to the mare owner when semen is required on a Sunday or Monday. We advise mare owners that they must make their own arrangement for the collection of the shipping container if the semen is required on those days or use same day delivery service. All semen will be examined under a microscope for motility and density. It will only be despatched if considered to be of good quality. However no guarantee on the fertility of semen can be given since so many other factors are relevant to a mare becoming pregnant. All stallions must be tested for EVA (unless vaccinated), EIA and CEM before entering the stallion centre. STALLION AI SERVICES LTD, TWEMLOWS HALL, WHITCHURCH, SHROPSHIRE.
