ST RICHARD’S HOSPICE PERSON SPECIFICATION JOB TITLE: Counsellor Contractual Hours: 37.5 per week Responsible to: Senior Counsellor Accountable to: Head of Family Support Service Education, Qualifications and Training Essential Recognised Degree/Diploma (minimum Level 5) in Counselling/Psycotherapy Desirable Membership of BACP or equivalent professional body Accreditation with professional body Knowledge Supervision qualification Substantial knowledge of palliative care and bereavement Sound theoretical background Knowledge of new thinking in loss and grief Experience Knowledge of and commitment to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy Experience of working with palliative care and bereavement and of counselling in end of life situations Experience of providing supervision Experience of multidisciplinary working, planning Experience of working with volunteers and student counsellors Experience of producing clear and precise reports and reviewing Skills and Abilities Ability to work in a time limited or open-ended manner Excellent communication skills Good interpersonal skills in relating to a wide range of people Strong organisational and prioritising abilities Ability to be an effective team player IT literate Personal Qualities and Aptitudes Established self-care and management strategies Boundary management in personal, inter-professional and provider relations Reflective practitioner Commitment to antioppressive practice Flexible approach to work Strong commitment to client self determination Strong belief in the rights of client’s privacy, dignity and choice Commitment to equal opportunity, anti-oppressive principles and practice
