Congress (PACC4) is organized under the theme: “Unity and Diversity for Africa’s Development”, and it is taking place a few days after the celebrations marking the World Day for Cultural Diversity and
Development on 21st May 2015. Let us join the world to dialogue on the ways and means to maximize our diversity as an essential instrument for Africa’s development.
The dialogue on cultural diversity is higher on the international agenda and is critical for human security and a prime responsibility of our time. Let us use this auspicious moment and opportunity to contribute to this important dialogue with the hope of taking action to enhance peaceful cultural coexistence on the continent.

WE ARE AFRICA - CULTURAL PRGRAMME
The Pan African Congress gala dinner cultural programme is essentially variety show that celebrates Africa Month and underpins the narrative of Africa Unite For peace, friendship, development and prosperity from
Cape to Ciaro.
This cultural manisfestation is sensitively choreographed < staged> through a series of stylized dance and performance metaphors that we hope will take our audience on a m journey of internalizing key messages heralding the true meaning of African Unity and Diversity through its foremost cultural expression music and dance.
The project is a collaborative effort of South
African and performers from West Africa,
Senegal, Nigeria, Mozambique and the Mali.
The music and dance sequences are timeless as they borrow from ancient anthems and folk music and modern urban Afri-pop and the Victor Ntoni jazz big band and chorus voices. This programme celebrates in many ways the essence and meaning to the importance of Africa Day, its origins present day relevance to-today African cultural expressions – it is therefore important that it should raise our consciousness through higher aesthetic creation but on the whole become an accesible feast of exuberant cultural ‘dikosha’ of music and dance celebration.

Rain Queen sees us travel through the continent to release us from famine, disease and war. The Rain Queen is the symbol of hope, it is believed that that her discovery will bring back fertility, prosperity and unity within the continent of Africa. The Rain Dance is an African Song and Dance that will provide healing to the souls and bring a better understanding and appreciation of our own cultures and traditions. interlocked with jazz harmonies and voices of the Gauteng Music Development driven by
Victor Ntoni’s repertoire under watchful eye and baton of Prince Lengoasa who has arranged most the music.
The ensemble pays homage to its founder, Victor Ntoni, the late composer, arranger and contra bassist. The repetoitre is a retrospective from the
South African song book incorporating the work of John Knox Bokwe’s
Ntsikana’s Hym – JP Mohapeloa,
Tymzashe and Moerane.

The performance would not be complete without the participation of Mozambique’s new voice of African soul Isabella Novela’s sometimes egregious haunting melodies that bear witness to the new music out of Maputo but unmistakably pan-African beyond borders. The Princess of Africa Yvonne Chaka and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador graces this occasion her presence and her music symbolizes somebody who has for years made African Unity her primary motive and tour de force.
The 2015 World Music Grammy and SAMA award winner Wouter Kellerman joins the posse with a homecoming celebration of
Winds of Samsara.
The anchor and driver of this programme is none other but Tumi Morake . Our script is tight but not tedious brings to the fore South
Africa’s madam comedian par excellence .
She comperes this program but holds no buts nor over the-top and seriousness as she gets her audience into stitches drives home the message of We Are Africa!.

Gregory Guyana Mamba – Executive
Director/Choreographer (SA): Mamba became interested in dance in the late 1980’s as a means to escape the political tensions growing in his place of birth. He started his formal dance training in 1990 at Moving Into Dance where in
2002 he became the Associate Artistic Director.
He founded Guyana Dance Theatre (VDT) in
1999 when he was undertaking a scholarship at the Performing Arts Research and Training School
(PARTS) in Belgium under the direction of Anne Teresa
De Keersmaeker . He received FNB Vita Choreographer of the Year in 1999, 2001 and 2002 for Rhythm 1.2.3
,
Rhythm Blues and Southern Comfort respectively. He was also awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for
Dance in 2002. He is the recipient of the 2012 Tunkie
Award for Leadership in Dance.
Luyanda Sidiya – Choreographer (SA): S idiya’s interest in dance began at school where he worked with various groups around his township doing dance, music and drama. He got his first formal training at Moving into
Dance Mophatong (MIDM) and later was invited to join
Moving into Dance Performing Company where he grew from being a dancer to become an Afrofusion teacher and rehearsal director. In 2007 he won the award for Most
Outstanding Dancer in Contemporary Style for Dance
Umbrella Festival. Sidiya is the Artistic Director at Vuyani
Theatre and he is currently the Standard Bank Young
Artist Award winner for Dance 2015.
Billy Monama – Lead Guitarist (SA) Western section
Composition: Monama was born in
Mokopane,
Mahwelereng and studied music at the Central
Johannesburg College. In August 2008 he was chosen as the most outstanding attendant at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Workshop series. Billy Monama leads a very exciting six-piece band with different cultural backgrounds.
Mpumi AKA “Mama Drum” Nhlapo – (SA) African
Orchestra:
Mpumi was born, bred and buttered in
Diepkloof Soweto. A self-taught percussionist, Mpumi is one of the greatest African drums percussionist and vocalist. In 2000, she won the Old Mutual Jazz Encounters
Award for best Upcoming Artist and best Instrumental player (Marimba). She worked with the likes of African
Footprint, Gregory Maqoma and Luyanda Sidiya.
Napo Masheane - Poet (SA): Masheane holds a Marketing
Management and Speech and Drama Diploma. Napo is a founding member of Feela Sista! Napo is the first winner of Mbokodo award under the Theatre Category 2012. She is presently the Managing Director of her own production company 'Village Gossip Productions cc'. She enrolled for her Masters Degree in Creative Writing with the Rhodes
University in 2014.
Joyce Hopane – Dancer (SA):
Choreographer, dancer, actor, singer and model from Polokwane (Limpopo)
Northern Province. This triple threat obtained a BTech in composition, performer and choreographer at Tshwane
University of Technology (TUT). She currently choreographed for the Mafikizolo tour (2015).
Tebogo Mokoena – Saxophonist (SA): Mokoena studied classical music playing the clarinet and flute at UNISA, Royal
School of Music, Johannesburg Orchestra, WESSOM and participated in a lot of choral and opera competitions as a tenor singer. He is a freelance musician and a versatile instrumentalist who jumps easily from mbaqanga, kiba, fusion to classic jazz.
Ratshepe Makhene – Bass Guitarist (SA):
Ratshepe was born in the South-West of Johannesburg. He enrolled for a college diploma in music at the Central Johannesburg
College with electric bass as his instrument of choice and majoring in performance. He is currently performing and touring with South African Flautist Wouter Kellerman.

Phosho Lebese – Drummer (SA): Lebese is a professional and a proudly South African drummer and percussionist, who studied music at the University of Cape Town. Phosho has also taught at Fuba Music Academy and at the Poshnosh private drumming school. He is now leading his own band called Wakanaka and a proud ambassador of the South African music.
John Mbuso Sithole – Dancer
(Mozambique): Sithole is a versatile dancer and is very well trained in the following dance genres like Contemporary, Traditional African,
Afro – fusion, Gumboots, Tap and Pantsula dance. A sought after teacher who has taught and held workshops in and around the world. He is also a master in the Djembe drumming.
Yao Gatorwobuna Agbodohu– (Togo):
Yao, stage name
Ago was born in Togo West Africa. He joined a cultural group from Ghana called Kakaloi. Yao toured Germany and worked with some of SAs
Legends such as Vusi Mahlasela, Busi Mhlongo,
Tshwan Gospel Choir, Sello Kgalane and many more.
Luyanda Madope – Keyboard player (SA):
Madope is a graduate from Fuba, a pianist, producer and a session musician. He has produced several albums like Asanda Bum’s “Fragile” and
Judith Sephuma’s “I am a Living Testimony”and also on McCoy Mrubata’s project “Braaskaap
Sessions Volume 2”. Madope also has theatre work under his belt.
Ryan Lucas - Guitarist (SA):
Ryan is mad
(about all things guitar). He had the honor of playing on a few albums and performed most notably with Jesse Clegg
(Pop Rock), Proverb (Hip-hop), and Cama Gwini. This is his second exciting collaboration with Vuyani Dance
Theatre.
Buhle Mazibuko – Accordion (SA):
Mazibuko was born in Allarnridge town of Nyakallong and grew up listening to traditional Sesotho music. He was taught by Ntate Malahla Potiane to play an accordion instrument called Korostina. Late 2013 Buhle collaborated with a South African renowned poet, Napo Masheane in her DVD Live shoot at
Joburg Theatre.
Tobela Mpela – Vocalist (SA):
Mpela trained for two years at Phakalani Music Industry
Institute doing studio production, song writing and vocal training under the directorship of
Victor Masondo the bass guitarist. In 2003
Mpela joined UMOJA as lead singer. In 2004 he appeared on the M-NET short film titled ‘My
Husband and Boy Friend’ that won him an award for Best Acting. In 2007 he joined African
Footprints as a singer and toured Mexico.
Qudus Onikeku – Dancer/Choreographer-
(Nigeria): Qudus is the Artistic director and founder of YK Projects. Born and raised in Lagos, a graduate of The National Higher School of Circus Arts -
France. Qudus has received various recognition globally; he was named the Laureate of the Envie d'agir program, Defi jeune 2007.
He was awarded, “Dancer of the year” by the future awards in
Nigeria in 2009 and nominated the “Young Person of the
Year” in 2010.
Pape Ibrahima Ndiaye – Dancer (Senegal):
Known to many as KAOLACK, winner of the Rencontres chorégraphiques 'Dance the Africa dance', choreographic
Africa and Indian Ocean competition in Tunisia with the solo 'J'accuse', in 2008. In 2000 he was introduced to dance by Papa Sy (Passtef ballet theatre of Dalifor) who then introduced him to Germaine Acogny (Ecole des
Sables / Compagnie Jant-Bi) where he trained in contemporary and traditional African Dance.
Peter Lenso – Dancer (Zimbabwe): Harare-born Lenso is a graduate of the (D.F.C) under the Dance Trust of
Zimbabwe and was awarded the Best overall student
2008 to 2011. He was also winner the National Arts Merit awards (NAMA) for outstanding male in 2012.He then joined Vuyani Dance Company in 2014 as a trainee.
Lulu Mlangeni:
Lulu is currently a senior company member and rehearsal director at Vuyani Dance Theatre.
She is the overall winner of So You Think You Can Dance,
Season 2 South Africa. An award winner for the most promising dancer 2007 and a nominee at Lesedi awards
2010. She recently won a Naledi Award for the first emerging voice.
Julia Burnham:
Julia began dancing at a young age with various community groups in Alexandra Township where they did genres like modern dance, traditional South
African dance forms. She has worked with various choreographers, and accomplished an award for Best
Upcoming Dancer Joburg City Festival. In 2014 she joined
VDT.
Keaoleboga Seodigeng:
Born in Randfontein and started his dancing career in 2007 doing traditional Tswana dance with Itsago Theatre Production. From 2008-2009 he did a performing Arts course in Dance, Drama and
Music and later obtained his NQFL4&5 at Sibikwa Atrs
Centre. In 2011 he joined VDT as a Junior company member and he later promoted to a senior level.
Otto Andile Nhlapo:
Nhlapo worked with a group called
Juvenille Development Cultural Group in 2004. He specialised in different genres of Zulu dance (Umkhomazi,
Isizingili, Umzansi...). In 2009 he worked with Nkosinathi
Chamo the then MID student for further dance training. In
2012 he won Pick of the Stepping Stones Award for Dance
Umbrella.
Phumlani Nyanga:
He started his dance career in the
Eastern Cape 1996. He was a full time dancer at Guild
Theatre for years. He won the Dance Umbrella Pick of the
Stepping Stones in 2010, and in the same year joined
Moving Into Dance Residency training programme. He is

currently VDT’s senior dancer and an aspiring choreographer.
Roseline Keppler:
A professional Ballroom and Latin
American dancer in Championship level and a 7 times undefeated title owner. In 2011 joined VDC as a trainee, then a junior and now a fully fledged senior company member. Her highlights were being part of the 2010 FIFA
Wolrd Cup, ANC Centenary Celebration 2013, The Metro
Awards 2013, Vienne Jazz Festival 2013.
Xolisilie Bongwana:
Xolisile’s dance career started in 1999. In 2005 he joined Uphondo
Lwe Africa in P.E. Toured with Dodgy clutch company from 2006 - 2011 to UK, US and also worked with Robin Orlin. He performed at the
ANC Centenary Celebration and toured with
Vuyani Dance Company to France, Finland, US,
Canada and Zimbabwe. He is currently working as a senior dancer.
Phumlani Mndebele:
Phumlani started his dance career in 2011 at the East Rand School of the Art with Zwelethu Sebolai, Mabiki
Sediane and Carmen Douglas. He joined the company in 2013 and has performed at the Metro fm
Music Awards 2014 and toured France in the same year. He is currently a junior company member of VDT.
Nomasonto Radebe:
Nomasonto started her dancing career at primary school as and at high school she was awarded with a certificate of being the best dancer within the schools Arts & Culture programs. In 2006 Nomasonto became a member of Khensani Tribe Youth Production where she learned different dance genres and also did drama, poetry, marimba and cultural music. In 2014 she joined Vuyani Dance Theatre Internship
Program and is doing her second year.
Edwin Ramoba:
Edwin was born in Soweto.
He worked on a collaboration project between MIDM and
Dansentrum Swedish Company – “Incubator Project 1”, and he is currently with the Vuyani Dance Company as an intern and has also had an opportunity to perform great works under the company, “Fullmoon” that premiered at the joburg theatre, “Seven Pillars” by Luyanda Sidiya and
“Blind” by Gregory Maqoma which toured Germany in
2014.
Kwazi Vincent Madlala:
Kwazi Madlala began dancing at a young age with Vaya Kasi Dance group in a township of
Khustong. He has worked with choreographer Sello
Modiga and received a certificate in dance under his direction. In 2014 he took part in the Bosasa Youth
Development centre as a performer in Sello Modiga’s work. He joined Vuyani Dance Theatre in 2014 as a trainee and he is still furthering his training with the company

Chaka Chaka helped to turn bubblegum disco into South Africa's dominant dance music of the 1980s and early '90s. Working with producer Sello "Chicco" Twala, she followed her 1984 hit debut single, "I'm In
Love with a D.J.," with a string of gold and platinum hits. Chaka Chaka continues to run her company Chaka Chaka
Productions.
ISABEL NOVELLA
Isabel Novella (Mozambique) is Native
Rhythms and Sony Music’s first Pan-
African offspring. Since her signing to
Native Rhythms label, Isabel has found resonance in the world and pop music space both in her home country and everywhere else, including South Africa – a country fast becoming her second home.,
Isabel had an opportunity to perform in over 40 concerts and festivals in Europe before even the release her own solo album, released in April 2013.

In South Africa, Isabel has graced high profile jazz concerts and festival, including the prestigious Road to Joy of Jazz a precursor to the Standard International Joy of Jazz Festival, Ugu Jazz Festival south of
Durban, East Comes Alive Concert and the
Annual Buyel’ Ekhaya Pan African Festival, including her recent performance at the
Atlantic Music Expo, Cape Verde in April
2013.
Composing music and singing is one of her biggest passion in life. She writes her lyrics in Portuguese, English and
Chopi/Shangana (Mozambican languages) and her music can best be described as a balance between Soul, Pop, light Jazz, and
World music.

Since discovering a knack for comedy in
2006, acclaimed actress and writer Tumi
Morake has made a name for herself as one of successful female Actress, Writer,
Presenter and comedians in South Africa.
She has shared stages with comics such as
David Kau, Marc Lottering, Stuart Taylor and Chris Forrest, at festivals such as
Blacks Only, Whack Jobs, Heavyweights
Comedy Jam, King Size Comedy, Old Mutual
Comedy Encounters and many more.
Amongst many recent career highlights, gigs that stand out include MCing at the
8th annual Woodstock Festival in 2007.
Being the only female among international and local acts at the 2009 Vodacom Funny
Festival, performing at the inaugural
Comics Choice Awards (2011) and being part of the 46664 it’s No Joke line-up.
This acclaimed comedienne, whose comedy style has been described as in your face and slightly provocative, has also performed on stage, on television and in films; in English, Afrikaans, Sesotho,
Setswana and IsiZulu across South Africa and as far as Prague, Paris and London. She has worked on a number of theatre productions in lead roles, such as Another Child and 1\4 Life Crisis, Maru, and Is this
Africa, which was presented at the FNB
Dance Umbrella and the African Dance
Festival in Paris in 2006. Tumi's acting and writing career currently focuses on television, with credits including the roles of Pabi in Soul Buddies (SABC1),
Persistence in SABC 2's Askies and the lead
Millicent in Izoso Connection, SABC1 (on which she is also credited as a writer). She has had cameo appearances in the flagship shows Justice For All, Nomzamo and City
Ses’la and is also among the team of writers for the SABC sitcom Nomzamo, as well as theTumi Morake. She is currently a presenter of a show called My Perfect
Wedding.
Putlane Prince Lengoasa- Musical Director-

A freelance musician (trumpeter and singer) working in Jozi and the larger South Africa and the world as a teacher, arranger, composer, session muso, soloist, ensemble player, conductor , music director and motivator to younger musicians. Possessing an immense experience within the music industry he worked with a number of the industry giants with the likes of Themba
Mkhize, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Sibongile Khumalo, Hugh
Masekela, Jonas Gwangwa and Khaya Mahlangu to name a few.
He performed as “Satchmo” with the National Symphony
Orchestra (NSO) from 1999 and have done several solo performances. Currently he is role player to developing and nurturing upcoming talents.
Ishmail Khambule- Transcriber/Copyist/
Trumpeter
Studied music at Wits – B Music; he won a scholarship to attend the international orchestra festival in Bayreuth Germany, and had lessons with Arno Lange of the Berlin
Opera House.
Ishmail was principal trumpeter for the South
Africa National Youth Orchestra which toured
Europe, Scotland and Russia. He was Head of Brass Music Education at St. Barnabas College Project Administrator at the South African
Music Education Trust. He was appointed Education and
Development Officer for the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra
He has worked with South Africa’s A-list musicians, Caiphus
Semenya, Victor Ntoni, Sipho Mabuse, Sibongile Khumalo, Abdulla
Ibrahim and others. In the last year he worked as copyist for the
South African Music book production.

Barney Rachabane- Alto Sax-
At a tender age of nine when parents are looking at their nine year old babies, Barney
Rachabane was already pursuing his career a musician, his dream was to play music. He played in the streets of
Johannesburg in the 60s. He also played in weddings, parties, stokvel and other events.
His first musical instrument was a Penny Whistle, then a Clarinet and a Saxophone. He played with various musicians such as Zakes
Nkosi, Kippie Moeketsi, Early Mabuza, Chris McGregor Big Band,
Soul Giants, Azanians, Hugh Masekela, Richard Groove Homes, and
Afro Cool Concept. (Live in New Orleans) an recorded in New
Orleans Jazz Festival and Live in Memphis. Hugh Masekela, Makeba,
Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbuli, Duke Makhasi. Ntoni and many more. He toured across the board with Hugh Masekela, Paul Simon for the Graceland tour that toured Europe, United States and other countries. He is a legend and one of the most unique world class
South African Saxophone players.

Tshabalala. He was born in 1955 in
SOWETO. He started his Music Career in the late 80’s with Bayete Music group,
Hugh Masikela, Sbongile Khumalo to name a few. Arthur is well known for his music in a variety Music ensembles that he performed with, including the Mzansi Sings Ensemble under the late Victor Ntoni
Dumisani Maswana-
Dumza a Johannesburg-based songwriter, performer and voice coach, as evidenced by his debut album,
'Iphupha’. He started singing at a tender age of 9 and has sang for various church choirs at various conventions, competitions and festivals. He performed alongside artists like MXO, Sliq Angel,
Tshepo Tshola, Mafikizolo, Siphokazi, Jaziel Brothers,
Ntando to mention but a few . Also shared stage with the internationally acclaimed
Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moor e in
2005 during their tour in Port Elizabeth, when he performed with the Mo Jazz
Band. His music appeals to a wider crossover audience both in South Africa and beyond borders.
Lucky Ndamase-
I was born in Katlehong in 1983, but relocated to Port St Jones at 13. I started singing at the age of 20 with a Gospel choir called Anointed. In 2011 I took a chance at the Idols where I made it till the top 30 in Sun City. I am currently working on my debut album produced by Gabriel
Stuurman.
Gabr iel Mawande Stuurman - Keyboard
Gabes is a pianist, composer, music director and producer. He has been working with TSHEPO Tshola,
Victor Ntoni, Siphokazi, Eddie Grant, Patty Auston. Ray
Phiri, Victor Masondo, Mbuso Khoza and Suthukazi to mention but a few. He traveled the world extensively.
His music has been hitting airwaves locally and abroad, as a result it has been roping in different awards such as
Metro and Sama awards.
Jongile Menzelwa- Vocals–
Music was the only thing that I could see myself doing. At the age of 13 I became the youngest session musician at Zako Music, in
Steeldale the East of Gauteng. I was one of the backing session vocalist for Vuyo Mokoeana and Pure Magic. I also had an opportunity to open a stage for the late
Brenda Fassie. I worked with Kholeka. I

worked with Arts Alive for 3 years, as a new act in Gospel. I worked with Tebogo Twin before joining Gauteng Music
Development, I have worked in Jazz with only with Bra Hugh
Masekela, as session vocal few times. It is an honour of have joined the Gauteng Music Development in honour of the great legend, Victor Mhleli Ntoni.
Khanya Ceza-Vocals
I was born in a small rural town of Peddie. I started music in local choirs then moved to
Johannesburg after completing matric to pursue music. In Johannesburg I met with
McCoy Mrubatha and worked with his.
Ensemble the McCoy Mrubatha’s Ensemble, where McCoy encouraged me to study a bit of music theory at Dorray House under AMDA Royal School of Music.
Later I worked with the likes of Gloria Bosman, Pat Matshikiza,
Victor Ntoni, Suthukazi Arosi, The African Jazz Pioneers, Musa
Manzini, Paul Hammer, Prince Lengoasa to name but a few.
LINDA SIKHAKHANE-Tenor Sax
Linda Sikhakhane is a young South African born Saxophonist and Composer, he was born in Umlazi Township, Durban. [1] His love for music especially Jazz was triggered at an early age and this saw him attending music classes under the tutelage of the
Legendary Dr Brian Thusi and Mr Khulekani
Bhengu. At a later stage he then enrolled to study Music at the UKZN Howard College. Sikhakhane has played with many respected South African Artists and also shared the stage with many international artists. He has also been involved in many projects as a mentor and teacher of music to young pupils nurturing their talents. [2] While still at UKZN his talent also saw him being offered bursaries from SAMRO, the National
Arts Council and the Leeds Youth Big Band

Mercy Pelonomi Meruti-Vocal-
Discovered by the legendary gospel artist
Pastor Benjamin Dube while singing in the church choir at the age of seventeen, and later joined the award winning gospel power house Joyous Celebration. While
MTN was sponsoring Joyous she appeared in one of their advertisements singing and being accompanied by Bheki Khoza on guitar. This was her first appearance on an advert but she had been involved in music for adverts (jingles) for a long time. She also ended up doing backing vocals for various artists both on stage and in studio. She traveled both to Africa and Europe. Later she decided to go into musical theater and joined a Holland based company which is called VDB Productions. She then featured in their stage production called African Mamas 2006 to 2011. She also performed at government, private and corporate events. She registered for a certificate in Management and Marketing for the Music Industry.
Mpho Mabogoane-Trombone“Mphorus”
Born in South Africa studied trombone and performs music as a trombonist, benefited a lot from music workshops led by maestro
Victor Ntoni, maestro Bheki Mseleku. Her experience include tours of Europe with
Mzanzi Orchestra under the conductorship of Mr Ntoni. England tour with Sibikwa
Ensemble, Denmark, and Holland. She also performed with Bob
Mintzer (Yellow Jackets) Bigband, Herbie Tsoali, Stimela, Sipho
Mabuse among others. She is regular with Yarona big band, she has performed privately with in front of heads of state, 1 st Black
South African President Nelson Mandela, former President

Mthunzi Mvubu- Tenor Saxophone-
was born and raised in Daveyton where he started his music career at the age of 14. He enrolled for music classes at the Music
Academy of Gauteng in Daveyton to the alto saxophone and was quickly awarded the lead alto chair in the Music Academy of
Gauteng Youth Jazz Orchestra. Being part of
MAG Jazz Orchestra Mthunzi toured England
(Wigan and Manchester) in 2002; Sweden (Gortenburg and
Stockholm) in 2003, USA (New York and Boston) in 2004; Germany
(Stuttgart and Kaffenburg) in 2005; Russia (Moscow) in 2006 to name but a few. Also performed with MAG big band accompanying
Kevin Mahogany in 2004 and Everest Greene in 2005 at the Joy of
Jazz Festival in South Africa. In 2006 he was invited to South Korea to spend six months. He recorderd with some of the musicians namely the late Victor Ntoni, Andile Yenana, Lucas Senyatso, Tshepo
Tshola, Hugh Masekela, Feya Faku, Abdullah Ibrahim,Marcus Wyatt,
Themba Mkhize,to name but a few.
Nqobile Sibeko-Lead Vocals-
Born at Springs, a good black woman, an artist at heart, a singer, actress, performer, producer, writer, arranger who worked with brilliant musicians such as; Sibongile Khumalo, Victor Ntoni,
Joyous Celebration, Prince Lengoasa,
Napo Mashiane, Mthunzi Namba, just to name a few. She did music for international movies, produced for
Gospel Goes Beyond, and collaborated with BB Winnas
Philile Sithathu- Vocals-
Raised in the dusty streets of
Meadowlands, Soweto. Philile Sithathu was destined to be a songstress. The third of tour siblings, she had been groomed by her mother Georgina
Gumbi to use her voice to heal broken souls and hearts alike Philile’s voice can be described as soothing like an angel. She is inspired by international singers such as Anita Baker, Yolanda Adams, Jimmy
Swaggaart and locally by the timeless Miriam Makeba and
Judith Sephuma just to name a few.
Reuben Malgas- Lead Vocals-
Reuben’s career in the Music Industry started when he was in his mid-teens – he joined a band called The Sounders in

Walmer Township, Port Elizabeth and then joined Isapheta where his musical and marketing prowess took the band to greater heights, performing locally and internationally, and cutting an album with Gallo Records. Coming to Johannesburg in
2000 as a freelance musicians, working closely with likes of
Lawrence Matshiza and Victor Ntoni – who, as producers, immediately recognised his talent and featured him in albums like: Ingoma – A collaboration with Sylvia Mdunyelwa, and as backing vocals and composer in the albums of Nombulelo, Judith
Sephuma, Mc Coy Mrubata, Thembisile
Ntaka, Simphiwe Dana, and countless more.
Senzo Mzimela-Trombone-
Senzo is a young born Trombonist, he was born in Umlazi Township, Durban. His love for music especially is jazz. He started music at Siyakhula music school under Dr Brian Thusi and Khulekani
Bhengu. Senzo Mzimela has played with many respected South African Artists and shared the stage with many international artists. And he also made it twice as a trombone player on Standard
Bank National Youth Jazz Band.
Sibusiso “CMK” Mkhize -Trumpet-
Falling in love with music at very early age, that’s when I started playing musical instruments (trumpet). I started playing in a marching band (Field band
Foundation), then I Joined Siyakhula
Community Music Centre where my musicianship was refined. He worked with Dr. Brian
Thusi,Themba Mkhize, Zakes Bantwini, Andile Kamajola, Nomusa
Dlomo with Vuka Africa, McCoy Mrubatha, UKZN Big Band, Youth
Wind Band, Siyakhula Jazz Band and the New Sound Band,
Standard Bank Youth Jazz 2012/13 Band led by Marcus Wyatt and Paul Halmer by
Band. Toured Sweden and currently work as a session musician
Sibusiso Sibanyoni- Bass
Sibusiso became interested in music at a very early stage. At the age of 10, he was already playing drums in the main church service. His love for the bass guitar grew when he was given an acoustic guitar and turned it into a bass guitar. Later he started meeting other fellow musicians from around his home town and started doing regular gigs. He later studied music which was what he was really most passionate about. It was during this time that
Sibusiso started to work professionally in the music industry. To date, he performed with Sibongile Khumalo, APPLE SOUL, Ayanda
Khumalo, Mnqobi Shota Mdabe, NOMALUNGELO, Mimi Ntenjwa,
KARABO Unconventional Sol, Judith Sephuma, Mahalia Buchanan,
William Sejake< Tshwane Gospel Choir, Phila, Sbu Banda, Jaziel brothers, Phutuma, Wanda baloyi, NEW
LIGHT, Witbank extravaganza and many more .
Silas Fupe-Guitar
Silus began his musical career in 1985 where he appeared in a popular TV programme of the time known as
"Lapoluga". Shortly thereafter he entered Shell Road to fame as it had become clear that he was destined for the world of music. In 2002 Silas played with Bruce Cassidy and
Johnny Fourie, his mentor. In the same year he played in the Joy of Jazz festival with his very own band. In 2003, Silas continued to spread his wings and played with Khaya Mahlangu. Since then,
Silas has played with the likes of Yusuf Latif, Rufus Reed, Howard
Johnson and locally; Themba Mkhize, Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria
Bosman, and
Wouter Kellerman just to name a few. Silas has also featured as the main guitarist for internationally acclaimed productions such as Dream Girls. Silas in 2015 continues to expand his vision and passion for his craft, with the aim of contributing his talent to the
South African landscape internationally and abroad
Sisonke Xonti-Saxophone
Started playing music at the age of ten but at thirteen he fell in love with the saxophone and continued playing classical saxophone until he got his UNISA Grade 8 Distinction (2006). His introduction to jazz came at the age of sixteen (2004) when he joined the Cape Town based band, The Little Giants, led by
George Werner and the late Ezra Ngcukana. That same year, he was selected to be a part of the School’s Big Band at the Standard
Bank National Youth Jazz Festival in Grahamstown. And later
(2007) was also selected for the National Youth Band for the first time under the leadership of Dr. Andrew Lilley. He has since played with an array of highly acclaimed musicians and also as band leader in his own jazz project. He toured internationally including China, Europe and many more countries.
Sthembiso Bhengu-Trumpet
From Johannesburg, South Africa. He started playing trumpet at the age of 12 where he started as a cornet player at his church The Salvation Army. He was then later on introduced to Siyakhula
Music School at Umlazi which was under the leadership of Brian Thusi. In 2010 he got enrolled at UKZN for his Music
Diploma under the leadership of Dr
Mageshin Naidoo. He started playing professionally in 2010 where he was part of the NorthSea Big Band in Grahamstown. In
(2012) he performed at the Joy of Jazz with Thandiswa Mazwai.
He has recorded with McCoy Mrubata, Ringo Madlingozi, and
Zama Jobe just to name a few. In 2014 he was part of the Joy of
Jazz orchestra where he performed with the Grammy award winner Gregory Porter
Siyabonga Zwane-Alto Saxophone
Birth names Siyabonga Bongani Doctor
Zwane, born in 1992, 7 December.
Siyabonga started playing soprano and tenor saxophones 2006, studied music at
The East Rand School of Art. He toured
Brazil, Holland, Tanzania, Botswana, and
England. He is currently playing alto sax at the age of 22.
Zoliswa Mavela-
My passion for music age of 8, when I was able to sing a choral the seniors for a
Lead Vocals- started at the the only one piece sung by school competitions and I sing it for every visited on tour. At the joined my very first was made to school we age of 15 I band in New
Brighton Township after caught out in Port Elizabeth rendition
Paradise Road. I was introduced to
Stompi Mavi and that’s where I started working with legends like, Stompi Mavi, Tshepo Tshola, Victor Ntoni, Abegail Khubeka,
Marah Louw. I have my own single: Show me Love: I have worked with Dusty Melody.
