Faculty Positions in Materials Science and Engineering, Boise State University
The Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) at Boise State University plans to hire three tenure track
faculty by fall 2012 to help grow its undergraduate and graduate programs. Hires will be made at the Assistant,
Associate, or Full Professor level. A doctoral degree in MSE, or a closely related field, is required. Successful
candidates will be expected to be highly collaborative, contribute significantly to both graduate and undergraduate
research, and make balanced contributions to teaching, research, and service.
Faculty are being sought who have expertise that support or are complimentary to strategic research areas of the
department and university. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to

computational (from small to large, short to long),
transport (thermal, optical, electrical, atomic, and confinement effects),
polymeric (soft-condensed matter physics and polymer chemistry),
biomaterials (DNA machinery, bio-inorganic interfaces, and nanotechnology),
green technology (solar, LED, energy applications, sustainable and strategic
materials),
6) fabrication and joining (thin films, functional and advanced materials),
7) characterization (surface and microstructural analysis, physical properties).
The MSE Department is part of a vibrant College of Engineering, recently ranked 12th in U.S. News & World Report's
list of best undergraduate engineering programs among comprehensive public universities. The College offers a
variety of accredited programs and enjoys a high level of support from the high-tech industry in Idaho and the
intermountain west. The MSE program is ABET-accredited and has been one of the fastest growing materials
programs in the U.S., offering BS, MS, MEngr, and PhD degrees. The recent addition of the PhD degree was made
possible by a generous donation from Micron Corporation and additional University support.
Boise State University is the largest university in Idaho, with an enrollment of
approximately 20,000 students and is located in Idaho’s capital city and largest
metropolitan area, which serves as the government, business, high-tech,
economic, and cultural center of the state. Boise has been highly ranked for
outdoor activities and business by National Geographic Adventure, Bike
Magazine, Forbes and others. Outside Magazine ranked Boise its Best Town in
2010. Located along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Boise provides a
vibrant downtown with unlimited cultural and recreational opportunities ranging
