National Science Foundation Scholarships for
Engineering and Computer Science
$2,000 - $5,000 scholarship*
*additional $5,000 available for students living in the Engineering Residential College
Application Deadline for Fall 2014: May 15, 2014
Eligibility Criteria: Must meet all requirements
1) Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
2) Demonstrated financial need (2014-15 FAFSA on file at Boise State University);
3) Academic requirements:
a) Minimum high school 3.5 GPA
b) Minimum Boise State 3.0 GPA and making progress towards degree
c) SAT/ACT scores submitted to Boise State (or with application)
4) Meet one of the following criteria:
a) Admitted and plan to enroll Fall 2014 as a full time student (12 credits or more) at Boise State University
b) Enrolled/enrolling in a first-year level mathematics course for Fall 2014 including in any of the following:
• Math 143 College Algebra and Math 144 Trigonometry (combined)
• Math 144 Trigonometry and Math 170 Calculus I (combined)
• Math 170 Calculus I
• Math 175 Calculus II
• Math 189 Discrete Mathematics
5) All recipients must be enrolled at Boise State as a full-time student for any semester a scholarship is awarded;
6) Majoring in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Material Science & Engineering or
Mechanical Engineering
7) Once accepted as a scholar, you will be expected to participate in monthly community building activities with other
scholarship recipients. Participation in a minimum of 2 cohort activities a semester is required. This might include one
or more of the following: orientation summer adventure (rafting) trip, participating in a seminar(s), living in the
Engineering Residential College; or attending cohort events (academic and social) such as resume building workshops
or yoga.

1) Completed first page of the application form with current contact information.
2) One letter of recommendation from an employer or teacher that has had direct experience or classroom
contact with you within the last two years. The letter does not need to be sealed.
3) Complete one of the following options:
a. A single-page essay explaining your interest in pursuing an Engineering or Computer Science
career.
b. In lieu of an essay, you may instead opt for a personal interview with the Program Coordinator,
Lynn Olson. When submitting your application to the Program Coordinator, Lynn Olson, please note
this and Ms. Olson will facilitate scheduling your interview.
NOTE: You must have a completed FAFSA application (www.fafsa.ed.gov) through the Boise State
University Financial Aid Office because this scholarship may only be awarded to undergraduate students
with demonstrated financial need.
