DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 4147 PAY GRADE: 018 CLASS TITLE: CLASSROOM TEACHER II - F/C ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is advanced professional work teaching academic, horticultural or agricultural subjects to exceptional children, inmates of a correctional institution or training school; or conducting programs in specialized areas of instruction for children and adults who are speech or hearing impaired, health impaired, gifted, emotionally disturbed, socially maladjusted, or have specific learning disabilities. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Plans and conducts classes for students or inmates in the fundamentals of a variety of subjects including home economics, physical fitness, reading, writing, arithmetic, science, social studies, civics, history, athletics, physical education and other subjects selected to correspond with the ability and limitations of the class. Prepares special teaching plans, courses, activities and learning experiences appropriate for the specific students or inmates assigned. Provides individual instruction to specific students or inmates as required. Prepares appropriate audio and visual teaching materials individualized to the specific needs of the student or inmate. Administers individual educational tests and learning aptitude tests. Participates in staff conferences or curriculum development needs in an endeavor to develop and improve educational programs. Counsels and advises students or inmates on academic, social and a variety of personal problems. Coordinates activities and classes in conjunction with appropriate school districts or other involved parties. 4147-CLASSROOM TEACHER II-F_C-CS Develops programs and related educational materials as necessary for the establishment and maintenance of assigned classes. Adjusts materials and curriculum to the individual differences of the students or inmates assigned. Speaks to various groups to explain programs and execute surveys to determine needs and priorities for establishing specialized educational programs. Consults with other teachers to assure programs are instituted and conducted in relation to established criteria. Confers with students or inmates and teachers in evaluating results of conducted classes. Performs related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, certification as a teacher by the State of Florida and one year of professional teaching experience.
