Letter to the council 32 Roxburgh Drive, Horwood Green, Boreham BH1 2LA 5th June 2014 Mr A. Thomas, Council Offices, Boreham BH1 1AA Dear Mr Thomas, I am a member of the Horwood Green Historical Society and I am writing to express my concern about the Council's plans for a bypass around Boreham. When I saw a map of the proposed route, I was horrified to see that it passed over the site of a Roman villa. I admit that it has not yet been proved that the villa is actually there, but this is because the site has never been excavated. However, our historical group often visits the site to look for evidence, and so far have found several items dating from about 300 AD. These include: ⁃ ⁃ ⁃ Five Roman coins, very worn, but one with a clear outline. Numerous fragments of Roman pottery. A small ivory figurine of Venus. May I suggest that the Council has this site properly excavated before building the road? Better still, why not take the road round the other side of Boreham where all the factories are? Yours sincerely, Arthur Oman
