Senior Pastor Position Valley Worship Assembly (VWA) Drayton Valley, Alberta The Need: Our church family is currently seeking the individual that the Lord is directing and calling to become the Senior Pastor of Valley Worship Assembly in Drayton Valley. This person will be asked to lead our growing congregation into a building program and into the promising future that we believe God has for us. The Town of Drayton Valley: Drayton Valley is a relatively prosperous oil town with little to no unemployment. The official population, according to the 2011 census, is slightly over 7,000. The seasonal work population adds an additional 4,000-5,000. The trading area population is estimated to be approximately 20,000. The Church: Valley Worship Assembly was established just over 7 years ago as a PAOC congregation desiring to serve and reach the dynamic town of Drayton Valley. The church currently has a voting membership of 41 and an average attendance of 77 and operates with a 5 person Church Board. There is a Family Ministries Pastor on staff and the church operates a downtown youth outreach ministry called the “Well”. For the last seven years the church has met for services in the West Wind Hotel, but has recently purchased land in a strategic part of town for new facilities. A Building Committee is in place and presently working to develop plans for our new building. VWA has been strong financially throughout its history and presently carries no debt. The Person we are looking for: (Adapted from the VWA “Senior Pastor Job Description”) Basic Criteria Holds an active credential in good standing with The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada or is one whom the PAOC, ABNWT District Leadership Team approve. If not ordained, has completed studies deemed acceptable to the PAOC to qualify for the ordination credential Has Senior Pastor or similar experience (minimum 5 years) Exhibits Godly character qualities and is relationally oriented 1 Desirable Qualities Preaching/Spiritual Development Able to deliver Spirit-inspired messages that are life changing Able to relate Biblical principles to everyday life Able to create opportunities for those needing to know the Lord to make a decision Able to encourage and model genuine worship and a life of prayer Able to develop and encourage the prayer life of the church family Able to create an arena for the Holy Spirit to do His work teaching, encouraging and modeling the gifts of the Spirit Able and committed to developing people to spiritual maturity through Bible studies, small groups, seminars, retreats etc… Leadership Development/Equipping Church Members Able to provide strong, Spirit-led, leadership to the assembly by working with the church family to clearly define a vision for VWA and then to translate that vision into practical goals and objectives, both short-term and long-term Able to provide leadership to the pastoral team as a spiritual coach and mentor, overseeing and assessing the pastoral team’s progress and activities Able to define and develop ministries for different groups within the church to meet their particular needs Able to assess the needs of the church community and then to develop the plans and leaders needed to provide essential ministries for maintaining church health Able and committed to equipping and empowering every believer for church ministry by helping them discover the gifts and talents God has given them Able to motivate, encourage, empower and provide ministry opportunities so that these gifts are freely and fully exercised in the Church Able to encourage the congregation to take an active stand on current social issues, based on Biblical principles Able to provide administrative leadership to the church and to the anticipated building of new facilities 2 Evangelism/Mission Outreach Able and committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with the residents of Drayton Valley and surrounding areas and to training and empowering church members to do the same Able and committed to create evangelism opportunities for church members Able and committed to inspiring every church member to become increasingly involved in and supportive of global missions. Able and committed to partner with and join forces with other Christian churches and/or Para-church organizations for community outreach activities and to actively participate in the local Ministerial Association. Other Able to perform required special services including baby dedications, weddings, funerals, communion services, water baptisms, seniors/hospital services and etc. and to keep appropriate records of these as required by the church and by law. Able to provide pastoral counseling to those in need with an ability to discern when to refer to other services in the community.
