Application Checklist

APPLICATION CHECKLIST
Online Application
Completed MSW Departmental Application should be uploaded into the online application. For your
MSW Departmental Application to be complete, you must indicate that you have met all of the prerequisite
requirements:



One Biology course completed with a grade of C- or better,
One Statistics course completed with a grade of C- or better,
Four Social Science courses and four Humanities courses.
Completed MSW Personal Statement should be uploaded into the online application.
$75 Application Fee for U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents or $85 USD for non-resident aliens
and international applicants. Please note that your application fee is non-refundable and must be paid online
by credit or debit card to ensure that your application will be processed immediately. If you pay your
application fee by check, your application will be processed on the date that your check is processed by the
Graduate School.
UNOFFICIAL Transcripts from each college/university attended should be uploaded to the online
application. OFFICIAL transcripts are only required for applicants who are recommended for admission and
will be requested by the Graduate School at that time. If you are a current NC State student, it is not
necessary to request your NC State transcripts.
Three Letters of Recommendation should be uploaded into the online application by the
recommenders. Do NOT use a personal friend, family member, or employee as a reference. Please ask
your reference providers to upload a letter of recommendation using the link provided to them in the online
process. Their letter should include details about your leadership skills, your ability to think critically, your
commitment to social work principles and values, and your commitment to advance social justice.

Traditional Program applicants: Two references must be professional references (e.g., a previous
employer, work supervisor or volunteer supervisor), one reference must be an academic reference
(e.g., a former professor or an instructor familiar with your academic work).

Advanced Standing Program applicants: One reference must be from your Field/Task Supervisor
or Field Director/Liaison. One reference must be a professional reference (e.g., a previous
employer, work supervisor or volunteer supervisor), one reference must be an academic reference
(e.g., a former professor or an instructor familiar with your academic work).
Official GRE Scores (Optional): The GRE is not required, but you may choose to submit official GRE
scores to supplement your application. NC State University’s code for GRE score submission is 5496.
For International Applicants Only:
TOEFL or IELTS scores
For Transfer Applicants Only:
The Transfer Credit Information Form should be emailed to the MSW Program Director at
jdtaliaf@ncsu.edu, along with syllabi from each course taken in a CSWE-accredited MSW Program that
you wish to have reviewed for transfer credit. Please note that, in accordance with the CSWE standards,
students cannot receive academic credit based on life and work experience.
