[4:08:25 PM] Weekend Testing: exclude me : [4:08:49 PM] Imam Hasan: ok.....then we are here 6 persons for this mission :P [4:08:57 PM] Weekend Testing: how many of you are testing for the first time in a weekend testing session? [4:09:10 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: ya sure [4:09:36 PM] Stephen Blower: Me May 05th, 2013 Page 2 WT 96: Feature Comparison [4:09:57 PM] srinivas kadiyala: This is my second time... [4:10:04 PM] Weekend Testing: I see Kavita already offline... [4:10:05 PM] srinivas kadiyala: but after long time [4:10:12 PM] Imam Hasan: this is my 2nd time i assume [4:10:21 PM] Imam Hasan: long time too [4:10:21 PM] Weekend Testing: quick folks, plan something, time is running out [4:10:51 PM] Imam Hasan: ok we can make group by three persons...each grp contain three persons... [4:11:35 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: so in which team i m by the way, I am investigating find in notepad [4:11:56 PM] srinivas kadiyala: I started with Word [4:12:36 PM] Koh Takahashi: Hey, Dwarika and srinivas. You guys want to team up with me? [4:12:47 PM] Stephen Blower: I've already started a comparrision of functions between both [4:13:02 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: ya sure @Koh [4:13:13 PM] srinivas kadiyala: yes koh [4:13:23 PM] Imam Hasan: ok then stephen, kavita and me are in nother grp [4:13:58 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: @Koh and Sri I am investigating find and comparing in both MS office and notepad [4:18:45 PM] Weekend Testing: anyone wondering about the product's version? [4:24:33 PM] Stephen Blower: we have two different versions of word, so will comapre both with notepad [4:28:31 PM | Removed 4:28:45 PM] Imam Hasan: This message has been removed. [4:29:00 PM] Imam Hasan: sorry wrong window :( [4:36:41 PM] Weekend Testing: less than 30 mins left (o) [4:41:10 PM] Stephen Blower: easy. [4:41:15 PM] Stephen Blower: :) [4:51:48 PM] Weekend Testing: hope the reports are being finalized [4:51:54 PM] Stephen Blower: yep May 05th, 2013 Page 3 WT 96: Feature Comparison [4:53:54 PM] Stephen Blower: Done: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EAJvvXedEOYXAhcLrbCM4lqmk9VpOr_c6r0l47H_0E/edit?usp=sharing [4:56:06 PM] Weekend Testing: still loading... [4:56:35 PM] Weekend Testing: loaded [4:57:31 PM] Weekend Testing: nice report [4:57:34 PM] Weekend Testing: Stephen. [4:57:56 PM] Stephen Blower: thank you it was a team effort [4:58:37 PM] Weekend Testing: who were in the team? [4:58:44 PM] Weekend Testing: Nice work team :) [4:58:46 PM] Stephen Blower: Iman [4:59:21 PM] Stephen Blower: Kavita, although she was very quiet :$ [4:59:33 PM] Imam Hasan: Maximum task has done by stephen .. i was there just a viewer... [4:59:34 PM] Weekend Testing: I don't see her online... [4:59:51 PM] Stephen Blower: Yeah I think she joined then went [4:59:56 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: We are also submitting the doc [5:00:01 PM] Weekend Testing: yes [5:01:49 PM] Weekend Testing: time up folks [5:02:07 PM] Weekend Testing: Ashwin, Dwarika, Koh, Srinivas? [5:02:27 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: ya we are submittng [5:03:07 PM] Weekend Testing: what was the toughest part Stephen & Imam?/ [5:03:57 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: I have find it very tought to use the variety of Search Option and making them separate for Replace and find functionality [5:04:07 PM] Imam Hasan: the two product was tested by microsoft...it wwas tough to findout any bug fromthem :P [5:04:27 PM] Stephen Blower: Toughest part was testing something I actually expected not to have bugs, then Imam found a cool one which spurred me on to try and find another unfortunately I didn't May 05th, 2013 Page 4 WT 96: Feature Comparison [5:04:40 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: Bug raised by Imam has one solution there in search option [5:05:15 PM] Stephen Blower: Yes, I noted the options on the comparisson list, so rather than a bug it's an oddity. [5:05:18 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: through this we could use exact match for replacement of text or some charecter pattern [5:05:24 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: ya [5:05:35 PM] *** srinivas kadiyala sent Reprot.docx *** [5:06:49 PM] Weekend Testing: nice to see two different approaches. [5:06:50 PM] Stephen Blower: I can't read your doc Srinivas, you need to accept request to contact [5:07:18 PM] Imam Hasan: me too [5:07:21 PM] srinivas kadiyala: I have accepted Stephen [5:07:22 PM] Imam Hasan: :( [5:08:45 PM] Weekend Testing: has anyone used these features extensively before this session? [5:09:00 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: ya i have used this before [5:09:24 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: mainly the replace and Find [5:09:26 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: option [5:09:28 PM] Weekend Testing: what was the approach used by each of the two teams? [5:09:33 PM] srinivas kadiyala: I have used but not like this findout about two at once. [5:09:39 PM] Imam Hasan: i used this feature in Notepad++ [5:09:45 PM] Koh Takahashi: I don't use Replace and Go To features that much but Find [5:09:53 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: In my team we have just assigned specific feature to each member [5:10:20 PM] Stephen Blower: The approach I took was to go through each option side by side in sequence. [5:10:36 PM] Stephen Blower: Use Find and Replace often [5:11:01 PM] Stephen Blower: usually to change something like can't to can not, you're to you are [5:11:04 PM] srinivas kadiyala: Liked the presentation of Stephen team. [5:11:22 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: me too May 05th, 2013 Page 5 WT 96: Feature Comparison [5:11:25 PM] Stephen Blower: as I tend to write the shortend way naturally [5:11:43 PM] Imam Hasan: (y)@stephen [5:11:52 PM] srinivas kadiyala: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0q_61LOlgYoOUVsUzNzMC1HQ0k/edit?usp=sharing [5:12:01 PM] Stephen Blower: (rofl) [5:12:15 PM] Weekend Testing: ok, one team used option side by side comparison [5:12:29 PM] Weekend Testing: and the other team split the features [5:12:57 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: we have split but comparision was also in our testing effort also [5:13:47 PM] Stephen Blower: I think both are valid, but to me doing side by side comparison you would tend to notice differences easer, although other option you can then compare the findings. [5:14:16 PM] Weekend Testing: Stephen, this being your first WT session, how was the experience? [5:14:17 PM] Stephen Blower: But that might take longer [5:14:48 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: ya really [5:15:07 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: but the one thingwas clear that we can cover thing easily and extensively [5:15:27 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: by taking one feature at a time [5:15:35 PM] srinivas kadiyala: This approach is like testing exploring each feature fastly. [5:15:41 PM | Edited 5:16:57 PM] Stephen Blower: Unusual, time went quicker than expected. When I read the test challenge, I thought, that's easy and wouldn’t be useful. But when going through it I actually discovered it wasn’t as easy as first expected and enjoyed the exercise. [5:16:38 PM] Weekend Testing: cool :) [5:16:59 PM] Weekend Testing: @Koh, did you try any Japanese characters? [5:17:18 PM] Koh Takahashi: No i didn't [5:18:08 PM] Stephen Blower: That was something I didn't test, I tested special characters like @ ! $ etc but not foreign characters. [5:18:41 PM] Weekend Testing: ok [5:18:42 PM] Weekend Testing: If given a repeat chance, what will you do different? May 05th, 2013 Page 6 WT 96: Feature Comparison [5:18:47 PM | Edited 5:18:51 PM] Koh Takahashi: since my first focus was 'Go To' feature and moved on to 'Find' next but didn't have time for it [5:18:54 PM] Weekend Testing: ok [5:19:50 PM] srinivas kadiyala: I will try to see more options left in the word .. [5:20:02 PM] Stephen Blower: Use a foreign language, use mathematical symbols, use longer search phrases rather single words. [5:20:21 PM] Weekend Testing: Did anyone use these options on an existing file? [5:20:29 PM] Stephen Blower: Yes [5:20:38 PM] Weekend Testing: that would have saved some time & brought in a good variety of test data [5:20:42 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: yes [5:20:51 PM] Stephen Blower: I used a 10k word doc [5:20:56 PM] Weekend Testing: nice [5:21:06 PM] Stephen Blower: that's a doc with 10,000 words [5:21:26 PM] Stephen Blower: Ah that was missing from the report. [5:21:27 PM] Weekend Testing: yes, count matters more than size here... I feel so [5:21:48 PM] Stephen Blower: I should have stated eaxatly what I used to test with [5:21:49 PM] srinivas kadiyala: I used.." Long 10-40 words and One letter and also No letters in the document." [5:21:54 PM] Stephen Blower: not just the products but the data used. [5:22:29 PM] Weekend Testing: What has this exercise given you in terms of learning? [5:22:40 PM] Weekend Testing: I would like to hear from everyone :) [5:23:15 PM] Weekend Testing: not just Stephen / Koh [5:23:31 PM] Stephen Blower: Don't think just because you know a product that it’s easy to test simple features as you will miss the details. [5:24:02 PM] Weekend Testing: others? [5:24:10 PM] srinivas kadiyala: In office I was using ms word 2007 and at present i have tried "MS WORD 2010" .. Which was different. May 05th, 2013 Page 7 WT 96: Feature Comparison The shortcuts are different for Word and Notepad. [5:24:38 PM] srinivas kadiyala: LEARNT THose shortcuts .. [5:24:40 PM] Weekend Testing: which shortcuts? [5:24:58 PM] srinivas kadiyala: F3 - Find Next : CTRL+H - Replace [5:24:59 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: I dnt thing short cuts has been changes any where in upgraded versions of Office [5:25:17 PM] Weekend Testing: those are same across notepad & word. no? [5:25:21 PM] Stephen Blower: I didn't test with shortcuts as I rarely use them, so didn’t compare them. That’s a miss. [5:25:41 PM] Weekend Testing: ah [5:25:59 PM] srinivas kadiyala: I have nevver checked the shortcuts for Replace and Find Next -[5:26:03 PM] srinivas kadiyala: before [5:26:27 PM] Weekend Testing: ok [5:26:31 PM | Edited 5:27:07 PM] Stephen Blower: I didn't look at how other users would use the product/s using shortcuts [5:27:19 PM] srinivas kadiyala: The use of Match Case - Was also used now... "Which i didnt use it before" [5:27:28 PM] srinivas kadiyala: for Replace and Find [5:27:43 PM] Weekend Testing: Anyone searched for help on using the feature? [5:27:49 PM] Weekend Testing: Any kind of documentation? [5:27:49 PM] srinivas kadiyala: YES [5:27:59 PM] Imam Hasan: me not :( [5:28:08 PM] Stephen Blower: Nope, noted it was there, but didn't use [5:28:28 PM] srinivas kadiyala: I have tried it showed the Ms Office Help Documentation But I have not searched over there.. what it happens. [5:28:37 PM] Weekend Testing: ok May 05th, 2013 Page 8 WT 96: Feature Comparison [5:28:52 PM] Weekend Testing: any questions to each other on this exercise? [5:29:35 PM] srinivas kadiyala: How was the team work : Koh and Dwarika with me? How can we improve any thoughts ? [5:30:40 PM] Koh Takahashi: I think we should talk how we would document first so that we can work more efficient [5:30:52 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: really i was also thinking the same [5:31:28 PM | Edited 5:32:15 PM] Stephen Blower: With two in the team doing comparrisons we talked a little but not enough, I think even though we had an hour that really didn't seem long enough to spend chatting on Skype, especially as I am slow at typing and reading. [5:31:40 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: but time was running out and feature was supposingly big to cover in this time [5:32:18 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: so we missed the chatting in b/w [5:32:42 PM] srinivas kadiyala: Yes, Documentation plays very important role .. to represent our testing. and Time plays a crucial role as we see the product has less but we dont see it has lots of features inside it. [5:33:02 PM] Stephen Blower: Documenting in our team was efficient with it being in a table. [5:33:14 PM] Weekend Testing: agree @Stephen [5:33:20 PM] Imam Hasan: agree [5:34:51 PM] Weekend Testing: what could be improved in this exercise? how was it ? [5:35:55 PM] srinivas kadiyala: First ten mins: We can have a decision of making a team and introduction of members and also the Mission of the Session. [5:36:32 PM] Stephen Blower: Agreed, need to plan quicker what people are doing [5:37:00 PM] Weekend Testing: that's for participants. anything I could have done to improve the exercise experience? [5:37:00 PM] Stephen Blower: And even if haven't got a plan quick make sure your still testing whilst devising the plan and how to document. [5:38:30 PM] Stephen Blower: I had no expectations of how this was run. One change the time on the site to 11:30 BST. Information given was clear. Possibabably half way through the exercise, give a few guidelines or simple pointers. May 05th, 2013 Page 9 WT 96: Feature Comparison [5:39:42 PM] Weekend Testing: as per http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/ it started at 10.30 am GMT [5:39:50 PM] Stephen Blower: Something like, have you read the help file in this instance, anyone using foreign characters etc. [5:40:14 PM] Weekend Testing: yes, the pointers usually help [5:40:26 PM] Weekend Testing: I too thought that this was an easy exercise :) [5:40:28 PM] Stephen Blower: GMT for the UK is no longer, we are in British Summertime in the UK now which is an hour forward. [5:40:48 PM] Weekend Testing: and thought twice before announcing the mission... [5:41:23 PM] Weekend Testing: cool. any other thoughts? [5:41:49 PM] Stephen Blower: Did you think it was to easy? [5:41:50 PM] Weekend Testing: what will you take with you from this exercise for work? [5:41:56 PM] Weekend Testing: yes @Stephen [5:42:13 PM] Weekend Testing: I gave three features hoping that it will take more time [5:42:20 PM] Weekend Testing: initial plan was just replace [5:42:28 PM] Weekend Testing: I added Find, Go To later [5:43:11 PM] Koh Takahashi: so you expected that we work as a team? [5:43:24 PM] Weekend Testing: no... [5:43:29 PM] Stephen Blower: I think just doing find would have been to easy, so adding the others made it tight for 1 hour but still a good exercise. [5:44:29 PM | Edited 5:44:40 PM] Stephen Blower: I will take from this for work. Organise you time and don't test thinking you know exactly what your testing is, go beyond that. [5:44:46 PM] Weekend Testing: great point about over confidence [5:44:53 PM] Stephen Blower: Yes [5:45:07 PM] srinivas kadiyala: It was good to get back in these .. learning about others work.. How to do testing in Tight Schedules - Time Management.. [5:46:26 PM] Stephen Blower: I can imagine if I went to work and asked to do the same the feedback wouldn't be so possitive until they completed the exercise as they'd think this to easy. But in the wash May 05th, 2013 Page 10 WT 96: Feature Comparison they would then realise they missed alot of things. [5:46:37 PM] Weekend Testing: yes, [5:46:44 PM] Weekend Testing: good job by both teams [5:46:54 PM] Stephen Blower: So that in its self is well worth the effort [5:47:11 PM] Weekend Testing: the reports will be updated along with this chat transcript at www.weekendtesting.com [5:47:26 PM] srinivas kadiyala: Thanks..to all. [5:47:31 PM] Weekend Testing: Thanks everyone for joining :) [5:47:44 PM] Koh Takahashi: Thank you very much [5:48:00 PM] Stephen Blower: Thank you, realy enjoyed it. [5:48:34 PM] Weekend Testing: feel free to tweet / blog [5:48:41 PM] Weekend Testing: @weekendtesting is the twitter id [5:49:49 PM] srinivas kadiyala: Sure. [5:50:34 PM] Dwarika Dhish Mishra: Thank you all and hope to meet next week again May 05th, 2013 Page 11
