The extensive website Lexikon Dornbirn that has a section called Dornbirner Familienbuch (this link begins
with Sophia Mohr [41]). This source lists names and families of residents of the city of Dornbirn, Vorarlberg,
Austria from around 1500 to 1920. I used Google Translate to get the gist of the meaning of some of the text
and terms. Some of the more common terms are listed below, according to German translation (keep in mind
that the common language of western Austria is Vorarlbergisch, an Alemannic German dialect; spellings and
meanings of words may mean something different in the dialect than in standard German);

Die Dornbirner Bevölkerung im Mittelalter – The Population of Dornbirn during the Middle Ages –
loosely translated via Google Translate
In 1330, Dornbirn district records indicated 220 homes in the parish, which suggested about 1,000 residents.
Of those residents, two names were noted, Konrad am Achrain and Walther, listed between 1326 and 1328
as ‘county judge’ at Schwarzach.
Limited population data was gleaned from some local records and books between the 14th century and the first
half of the 15th century. Listed in Dornbirn around 1394 from tax records were Ulrich von Ems, along with the
A 1533 record of ‘Emser serfs’ in Dornbirn lists the following families: Berlin, Eiler, Diem, Franz,
Fußenegger, Gehrer, Hämmerle, Hohl, Jäcker, Klien, Nägele, Rhomberg, Schmitter, Schnell, Scholl, Spiegel,
Stump, Summer, Thurnher, Thoma, Welpe, Zimmermann and Zoller.
Records show genealogical continuity from the Middle Ages to the present on the following surnames;
Albrich, Blaser, Bobleter, Diem, Fußenegger/Fussenegger, Hefel, Nessler/Neßler, Rhomberg, Rusch,
Thurnher, Wehinger, Welpe, Zumtobel, and some Huber & Schmid (various spellings).
Migration to the area and population stability may have been due to local construction and tearing down of old
villages in the area.
Known in1348/49 was a great plague of Italy from most of Europe [the Black Death] which was also in the
Lake Constance area. However, a 1369 record indicated that Dornbirn had ‘remained spared’ from the plague.
Very little was known about social conditions, social classes and land owners. There was a ‘wealthy peasant
elite’ in Dornbirn, where some had several farm buildings, others only ‘half a yard,’ with very little debt.
Januar.
In the mid-14th Century, the plague and other epidemics lasted for a few years, which did not affect the
Dornbirn population…Dornbirn had been spared, which locals attributed to Saint Anthony. From this, 17
January was celebrated as the feast day of St Anthony along with St Sebastian, patron saint against the plague,
whose feast day was 20 January.

Elizabeth (Stanley & Ellsworth), Hannah (Davis), Samuel A. and Mrs. White. In 1833, James [176] married Eliza A.

Hays Family Cemetery (http://www.bscn.com/~harryv/haysc.htm)
‘This family cemetery [now considered part of Bethel Cemetery, Harrisburg, Poinsett, AR] belonged to Henry
Albert Hays and his wife Mary A. Stancell Hays. They were one of three families that came together from
Northampton County, N.C. in 1854. The other two families were Mary's brother, William Everett Stancell and
Mary's mother, Anna Stancell. Anna Stancell died at the David Hare farm and the family refused to go farther
west. Henry Hays and William Stancell rode 20 miles or more and learned of a tract of land for sale at the Dr.
Mardis farm. After a look at the land, they bought 405 ½ acres from Richard Spencer. The land was divided
with Henry taking the north half and William taking the south half. Here on this land the remains of Anna
Stancell were laid to rest on Aug. 1, 1854. She is either buried on the north half where the Hays cemetery is
located or on the south half where the Stancell cemetery is located. The two family cemeteries are a short
distance apart. The oldest monument found at the Hays Cemetery is that of Mattie C. Moore, wife of William
H. Moore and daughter of Henry Albert Hays who died March 12, 1868. In later years other families were also
allowed to be buried there. As the land passed down through the family the cemetery was closed sometime
between 1897 and 1903 and later generations used the Bethel Cemetery. James Everett and Nancy Arminda
"Minda" Molder Moore had a child buried in the Hays Cemetery in 1897 but had to use the Bethel Cemetery
when another child died in 1903 because the Hays Cemetery had closed. ‘

The Union (Georgetown, OH) 31 July 1861 - The Cobb Murders; Murder of a Family in Maysville, KY.
One of the most atrocious murders we have ever been called upon to record occurred at a farm house on the Maysville
and Orangeburg road, two miles from Maysville, In Mason County, KY on the 24 inst. The victims were an old man
named Cobb and his two sons - one aged 16, the other about 21 years. Two men, named Charles Collins and ___ Moore,
entered Mr. Cobb's house and seizing an ax, entered the room in which the young men slept, and deliberately butchered
them. They then entered the bedroom occupied by Mr. And Mrs. Cobb. With a couple of heavily dealt blows upon the
head they dispatched Mr. Cobb. They also struck his wife once or twice, and evidently thought they had killed her.
Though very severely wounded, she is likely to recover. Having completed their horrible work of blood, they proceeded
to search the house for money, and finding about $200 in a bureau drawer, departed with it. The object of the murder was
booty, as one rullians [sic] understood that Mr. Cobb had a large amount of money in his possession at the time. What
makes the deed appear still more inhuman is the fact that one of the murderers - Collins - is nearly [closely] related
toMr. Cobb.

Jochem Burgaart, Sr. was christened 1 Jul 1752, Zion Lutheran, Loonenburg, Greene, NY. He and his family were
enumerated in Kortright, Montgomery, NY during the 1790 and 1800 Federal census. A story passed down states the
following about Jehoiakim Burget: He grew up in Schenectady, NY and had some formal schooling in his teens but
learned at an early age about nature and the forest. Around the age of 20, he went to Schoharie village to help build a
stone church for the Reformed Dutch Church. It was around that time that Wampanoag Indians had migrated to the
Mohawk Valley (they were descendents of Massasoit, friend of the Plymouth pilgrims). The Indians spoke English and
most of them has English names…Sarah White, who married Jehoiakim, was allegedly a direct descendent of Massasoit.
Soon after the stone church was completed, the Continental Army took it over in 1772. It was stockaded and became
known as Fort Schoharie (also called the ‘Old Stone Fort’). Jehoiakim joined the Army as a scout that year. Due to his
training and experience, he was assigned to arrange a system of communication by messengers between the Mohawk and
St Lawrence Regions with Fort Schoharie as the home base. The known children of Jochem Burgaart and Sarah White

The information on Thomas, Alsey and their children has not been validated or verified. Most of this information comes
from the Wray Forum on www.genforum.com. Although not completely accurate, the information here tends to show
the general consensus of Wray family data shared by many on the Wray forum. In my opinion, the data is problematic.
For instance, if Alsey was born around 1745, is it likely that Margaret was born in 1800 when Alsey was 55? In
addition, Luke’s marriage to Nancy Souther has been questionable as well as who are the actual children of Luke Wray
and Elly Daniels. Further research will be necessary to fill in the holes and substantiate the data of this Wray line.
