IMPACT--- SEPTEMBER 2013 MARRIED TO THE ENEMY! Throughout northeast India, God is using MFE to train dynamic young leaders, like Pastor Thangkholal and his wife Angam. They are impacting families throughout Guwahati, India, a city of almost one million people! Their growing and dynamic congregation of several hundred (grabbed a few for a photo opt) is filled with young professionals and university students. There is a HUGE interest in MFE’s premarital program! Pastor Thangkholal and Angam attended our training last year and have been putting the MFE Curriculum to good use. First in their personal lives…….and then in the lives of the people in their congregation. Here you see them giving their report as to how God is using MFE to impact their lives and their ministry. AND……you will see why we titled this “MARRIED TO THE ENEMY.” The next page gives their report. P.O.Box 441-Visalia. We grew in our understanding and loving each other more. 2. We were encouraged through the resource persons to live an exemplary life. 3. We shared what we have learnt to our church members. 4. Serving God together with my wife—her involvement is more after the last seminar. “Our perspective on marriage has changed. We preached, prayed and sang together and yet, inside we were married just for the sake of our children. This Marriage Enrichment seminar came as God’s remedy for us.” “How we got married”: My Name is Pastor Thangkholal Haokip and my wife is Angam Haokip. I belong to Thadou-Kuki tribe and she is from Tangkhul Naga Tribe. There were tribal wars between our tribes, where nearly 2,000 people died and 1,500 houses were burned down (1991-1998). In one of the tribal war, even we lost our house and belongings. We met in a Bible College where we both studied. After my graduation, I proposed her and we decided to get married. We informed our parents but parents from both sides were deadly against our marriage. We prayed for seven years and through the help of some godly elders of the church, her parents agreed along with my father. We got engaged however we had to wait for another year to get the approval of my mother. She said, “How can you marry people who have killed our people and burned our tribes’ houses.” These were the very words we both heard from our parents and people of our own community. But by God’s grace, on January 24, 2006 we got married. Her sendoff ceremony was done in Imphal (Capital of Manipur state) and not in her village due to security reasons. On our marriage day, sixty of them came to my village. We provided volunteers for security and took permission from all social and militant leaders. As we look back today, we are amazed at how God has brought us together thus far and as we continue to serve him, we are blessed with three children. (Angam is on Jeannine’s right) This couple joins with us in thanking you for investing in their lives and in their ministry! In the Joy of Jesus…………Tom & Jeannine
