Course Description:

Pre Calculus IB Honors is a course designed to prepare students for the study of Calculus. Additionally, Pre Calculus Honors will include course work which will help students who plan to take SAT or ACT tests in preparation for college applications and admissions. Students must have successfully completed a grade of C or better in Pre IB Algebra II or IMP III. Algebra 2 or IMP II students must have also passed a Trigonometry class.

Course Outline:

This class will cover topics noted in the course text. Chapters P,1,2,3,12,and parts of 4 First Semester and Chapters 4,5,6,7,9,10 plus IB Test Prep Second Semester. Students will have access to graphing calculators in the classroom, but acquiring a graphing calculator, though not required, is recommended. T-I 83, TI 83 plus, are calculators which are allowed for use on the AP Calculus tests and are also allowed on SAT or ACT tests. (Refer to calculator rules when signing up for the exams.

Additional calculators may be noted.)) Textbooks : I will post in written form on the board when textbooks are to be brought to class. Textbook should be covered and brought to class daily. Pre Cal Textbooks may be stored before school in the appropriate class cupboard and picked up after school before 3:20 with the clarification that it is your responsibility for loss, damage, or theft.

of failing to follow the Classroom Expectations:

Following and respecting the above agreements will build a sense of community in the classroom and if individual problems arise, appropriate action will be taken including:

Writing, tracing, scratching, gum on/UNDER desks, walls, and other items in the room will result in a referral to the Assistant Principal for destruction of school property. YOU

SHOULD CHECK UNDER AND AROUND YOUR DESK AT THE START OF EACH PERIOD FOR ANY DAMAGE AND

REPORT IT TO ME AT THE START OF THE PERIOD BECAUSE IF FOUND DURING THE PERIOD, YOU WILL BE

Tardy Policy

If a student chooses to be late to class, the following consequences, as outlined in the THS Handbook, will result:

Tardy 1 -2 Teacher conference with student/ sign tardy log

Tardy 3-4 Contact Parent/ sign tardy log/ 15 minute detention served same day as tardy ( starting at 3:05 p.m.)

Make- Up Work Policy:

Returning to class after an absence………

Excused Absence:

It is your responsibility to find out what you missed by……

1.

Copying the missing notes from a classmate. Call your math partner.

2.

Check for missing handouts from the class pocket in the back of the room..

3.

Turn in missing work and write ABSENT on (date of absence).

Students will have the same number of days to complete the work as they were absent. Make-up assessments will be given before or after school. Please make arrangements with Mrs. Bassett ahead of time. An excused absence on a test or quiz day must be made up the following Wednesday after school, this includes sports and other activities.

Suspension or Unexcused Absence:

If you are suspended home or have an unexcused absence, you may not make up the work. If you have in house suspension, you may make up the work.

Homework Policy:

All work including classwork should be completed neatly in pencil and with great effort. The purpose for assigning homework is to give students the opportunities to practice skills, to prepare them for a new topic, or to elaborate on introduced material.

Students will keep track of the assignments on their assignment log in their notebook. For additional notations, Refer to Board

Required Materials: Must be brought daily….

1.

Your choice: 100-200 page spiral notebook ex. 3 subject or 5 subject , Composition Book, or a 3 ring binder, (This is your working notebook which will hold an assignment log, Just In Time Learning Assignments, Notes/Classwork, Homework, and

Quizzes/Tests)

2.

graphing calculator TI 83-TI 83 plus, TI84, Save the TI points and turn them in to your teacher. A calculator is not required but recommended.

3.

current Textbook with cover/ Name and period on spine

4.

correcting pen (colored pencils and highlighter optional)

5.

Homework assignments should be ready to turn in when requested. Separate sheet of paper with proper heading.

Leave a page in your notebook to attach the returned assignment. It is recommended to complete the nightly homework and be prepared to turn it in at the start of each class period. Homework earns you practice opportunities and points. Please complete your homework with pride and use it as a tool for success in this course. Be sure to write the numbers from the problem set that need to be covered before the bell rings. Use the Homework Helpline on the board as a tool for your benefit. The Homework will be recorded daily and returned to be discussed after the JITL.

Classroom Procedures

Beginning of Class Enter quietly-thank you!

Check under/on/around desk area and report any damage

Turn in homework assignment before Teacher closes the door.

Begin working on the Just In Time Learning (warm-up) (JITL)

Early finishers-read assignment calendar and fill in what is available/or locate lesson in the textbook and read ahead

Be prepared to asks questions from homework or classwork

Instructional Period

Participate, follow directions, and be respectful

Be prepared to take notes in guided lessons

Stay in your seat unless permitted to move

Begin assignment/time permits

Ending Period

Copy assignment into assignment log

Clean area

Remain in your seat until dismissed

Grading Policy: Your child will be able to check their grade on Parent Link . Grades will be updated weekly.

90-100% A Break Down of Class: Tests/Quizzes 60%

Final 20%

Semester grade is determined as follows:

First Semester:

40% Quarter 1 40% Quarter 2 Final Exam 20%

Second Semester:

40% Quarter 3 40% Quarter 4 Final Exam 20%

Grading Determination: Tests, Quizzes, Homework Assignments, JITL’s, and Classwork. (homework will be completed in pencil, proper heading in right hand corner, assignment on top margin, Selected Problem(s) highlighted, and all work shown. Also Refer to Board Policy 6145), Anticipated IB Diploma Candidates will have a Mathematical Studies Paper due at the start of second semester.

All work is due at the beginning of each class period. If you are Tardy and miss the JITL or a Pop Quiz, you will not be able to make it up. If you are Tardy and know a HW assignment, Test, or Quiz is due for that given day, you are able to complete the task using the remaining time and finish with your classmates.

No late work will be accepted unless an excused absence has been recorded. If you are suspended home or have an unexcused absence, you may not make up the work.

Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated and the consequences will be followed as outlined in the Student Handbook.

Bathroom Policy: I greet you at the door and it is at that time you should quickly organize your materials and use the bathroom. During the class period is not the best time to use the bathroom, however, special circumstances do arise. Please use your best courtesy to not interrupt the lecture to ask permission to use the bathroom. I encourage you to use the bathroom during the passing period and before the bell. We are located very close to the bathroom so with quick steps, your personal needs can be met.

TA’s will be required to attend a minimum of 70% to receive a passing grade.
