HENRICO BOARDROOMS TO CLASSROOMS PROGRAM
You are invited to exchange your offices and boardrooms for classrooms to
experience a day in the life of a Henrico County principal.
Recognizing the need to foster working relationships between business leaders and
public school educators, we challenge you to invest the time, talent, and resources
necessary to enhance the Henrico County public education system. The Henrico
Boardrooms to Classrooms program is presented as a collaboration of the Henrico
Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber and Henrico County Public
Schools.
Committed business and community leaders are invited to participate as a
Boardrooms to Classrooms volunteer in an elementary, middle, high or technical
center school in Henrico County Public Schools. This experience will offer you a
firsthand look at public education and an opportunity to connect with principals,
teachers, staff members and students. Volunteer “Principals” may indicate their
area of interest in visiting a school.
Boardrooms to Classrooms volunteers will shadow an elementary, middle, high or
technical school principal for a morning to gain insights into what a principal
experiences during a typical day by observing and participating in activities such
as touring the school, speaking with faculty and staff, visiting classrooms and
engaging in class discussions, meeting representatives of student associations,
receive school demographic and data profiles, reading to students, attending
special performances, delivering morning announcements over the public address
system, and other pertinent school activities. They will then share their experiences
with other participants and school leaders during a debriefing luncheon.

HENRICO BOARDROOMS TO CLASSROOMS PROGRAM
Program Overview
Purpose
Date & Time
Recognizing the need to foster working relationships between business leaders and
public school educators, the Henrico Business Council will partner with the Henrico County
Public Schools (HCPS) for the Boardrooms to Classrooms program. The program is an
annual event designed to create an awareness and understanding of the challenges and
opportunities facing education today and encourage meaningful business-education
partnerships.
The Boardrooms to Classrooms program invites executives and community leaders to
shadow principals for one day to gain a better understanding of the rewards and
demands of educational leadership in the 21st Century. The goal of the program is for
participants to translate their one-day experiences into long-term relationships that
enhance the learning environments at their schools and support student achievement.
By being a volunteer for the Boardrooms to Classrooms program, business and
community leaders have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the public school
environment and get a rare, in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at a typical school day.
Through this distinctive experience, business and community leaders can better
understand not only how principals function as the CEOs of their respective schools
(through instructional leadership, daily operational practices, financial operations, and
employee relations) but also broaden their understanding of the progress schools have
made, as well as the opportunities and challenges facing education today.
