Applications are open to: Functional Area: Administrative Services % Client Focus - Internal: 20% % Client Focus - External: 80% Reports to the: Director, CSIRO Futures Number of Direct Reports: 0 Role Overview: CSIRO Futures is seeking a Senior Business Consultant who will play a lead role in delivering foresight and strategic analysis projects for a diverse range of clients in industry and government. Typical projects will involve helping clients understand and respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by major economic, environmental, social, and technological trends. The successful candidate will have strong business strategy and technology analysis skills, excellent communication and report writing skills, will be comfortable leading and facilitating discussions with clients, and must be an enthusiastic and motivated team player interested in helping build a rapidly growing consulting team. Duties and Key Result Areas: Effectively engage with, influence and coordinate internal and external stakeholders to source/synthesise relevant and accurate information and provide input on varying subject matter – both business and technical. Quickly analyse and synthesise large amounts of information from disparate sources into logical outlines and conclusions. Provide detailed and accurate information/reports based on solid quantitative and qualitative evidence. Where solid evidence is not available, the role is expected to be able to draw conclusions based on the information available. Take a lead role on creation of professional-quality client-facing project deliverables including presentations, written reports and other communications tools. Develop strong working relationships with client senior executive stakeholders and be able to quickly understand and act on client direction and feedback. Have strong communications skills and be able to succinctly and professionally communicate complex business and/or technical concepts to client stakeholders. Be capable of providing guidance and direction to junior analysts on projects. Support project managers by assisting with creation of project plans and tracking progress against them. Support business development by assisting with creation of project proposals. Actively develop an understanding of CSIRO and its key science domains to determine the most appropriate information sources and guide pertinent analysis and reporting. Contribute to the growth and effective functioning of the Futures team. Selection Criteria: Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed Pre-Requisites: 1. Education/Qualifications: A degree in business, finance, economics, science, engineering, or a related field. Several years’ experience in a commercial management or strategy consulting firm. 2. Problem Solving: Proven ability to investigate underlying issues of complex and ill-defined problems and develop appropriate responses through abstract thinking and using creative solutions. Essential Criteria: 1. Ability to source, evaluate, synthesise and analyse a broad range of business, technical and economic data to form insights and input to business decision making. 2. Experience generating professional quality client-facing written reports and deliverables that clearly communicate analysis and key insights to a senior executive-level audience. 3. Excellent oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and facilitate engagement with key client stakeholders, including senior management. 4. Experience applying business analysis and strategic analysis frameworks such as value chain analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, SWOT analysis, or similar. 5. Experience analysing new technologies, developing technology strategies, and explaining the benefits of technology in business terms. Desirable Criteria: 1. Strong subject matter expertise and prior experience delivering consulting projects in at least one of the following industries: mining/minerals, energy, cleantech/greentech, manufacturing, or healthcare. 2.
