The Genazzano FCJ College Rowing Club involves over 100 students from Year 8 to 12 and is a key
element of the College sporting program. Operating for over 25 years, the Rowing Club has a proud
history of success at Head of the Schoolgirls’, State and National level. Every rower is recognised as
an individual and encouraged to reach their potential both at school and beyond.
The Head Coach – Rowing is employed as a part-time member of the College staff with the
immediate responsibility over the senior program while also assisting the Junior Coordinator –
Rowing with the management of the Junior Program. In carrying out his/her duties, the Head Coach
– Rowing should at all times support the College’s vision and mission by demonstrating a concern
for the welfare and development of each student and ensuring students exhibit a suitable standard
of behavior as well as conforming to uniform regulations.
The Head Coach – Rowing reports to the Director of Rowing (DoR) with a close liaison to the Junior
Coordinator – Rowing. From a technical and coaching perspective, all coaches report to Head Coach
– Rowing.
1. Coaching
The Head Coach – Rowing is required:








To attend all senior water training sessions during Terms 3, 4 & 1; attendance at junior
sessions is as negotiated with the DoR
To coordinate senior crews and Coaches at training, camps and competition
To coach a specific Senior crew compatible with the HC’s other duties
To attend and play a pivotal role in the running of all rowing camps
To teach a technique consistent with current Victorian and Australian ideals
To develop an understanding of the overall rowing program and have knowledge of the
students involved.
To assist the Junior Coordinator Rowing with the management of the Junior Program
To assist the Junior Coordinator with the organization and running of the beginner program
in Term 3.
2. Land Training
The Head Coach – Rowing is required to attend and oversee Strength and Conditioning classes and
circuit sessions as negotiated with the DoR during Terms 3, 4 and 1
3. Training Programs
The Head Coach – Rowing ensures training programs are implemented by all coaches and provides
advice to the DoR regarding:
 training programs for all squads
 the training programs for Rowing Camps
 holiday training programs for Term 3 and Summer Holidays

Crew Selection
The Head Coach – Rowing is required to:



Liaise with other coaches and provide the DoR with recommendations for the structure
and timing of selection policy and decisions
Make a recommendation to the DoR for the final selection of Crews and Scullers for the
Head of the School Girls Regatta
Regattas
The Head Coach – Rowing:



Attends Regattas as required by the DoR.
Takes responsibility for all rowers in the absence of the DoR where the Genazzano Rowers
(both senior and junior) are split between venues
Relation to other Coaches

Communication with Parents


Has a direct leadership responsibility for senior coaches and the management of senior
programming
Ensures all coaches are following and teaching a consistent technical model
Assists the coaches in improving their coaching skills and knowledge.
Seeks input from other coaches in order to increase the effectiveness of the Rowing
program
Ensures smooth change over and induction for any new or replacement Coaches.
Communication with parents is undertaken in consultation with the DoR.
Administration
The Head Coach – Rowing:



Provides the DoR with an end of season report including evaluation and recommendations.
Attends Genazzano Rowing Club functions and Staff meetings as requested.
Assists the DoR with the administration of camps, regattas and other day to day operations
of the Rowing program
10. Rowing Committee Fund Raising Events
 The Head Coach – Rowing is expected to assist the DoR in the management and
coordination of the ‘MAD regatta’ and other fundraising events
 An invitation is extended to the HC to attend committee meetings
11. Qualifications and Requirements

The HC is expected to attain, and keep updated the following:
 Level 2 First Aid including CPR and anaphylaxis management
 NCAS. Level 2 Rowing
 Heavy Endorsed Drivers License (24 Seat Bus License)
 Taxi Directorate
 Recreational motor boat License
 Working with Children Check
 Criminal Record Check

12. Conditions of Employment



The role requires the incumbent to complete varied hours from Term to Term, noting the
Rowing season peak period occurs in Term 4 and Term 1. The position is employed at 0.8
FTE with all hours undertaken, including any reasonable additional hours incorporated in
the average annual time allocation.
Salary and general conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Victorian
Catholic Schools Award, with all relevant leave and loading provisions applicable.
Salary will be based on skills and experience and salary sacrifice options are available.
