GENAZZANO FCJ COLLEGE Title: Reports to: Senior 1st Crew Coach Director of Rowing The Genazzano FCJ College Rowing Club involves over 100 students from Year 8 to 12 and is a key element of the College sporting program. Operating for over 25 years, the Rowing Club has a proud history of success at Head of the Schoolgirls’, State and National level. Every rower is recognised as an individual and encouraged to reach their potential both at school and beyond. The 1st Crew Coach - Rowing is employed as a part time member of staff over the 2013/2014 Rowing season. In carrying out his/her duties, the Coach should at all times be consistent in supporting the College’s vision and mission by demonstrating a concern for the welfare and development of each student, and by ensuring students exhibit a suitable standard of behaviour as well as conforming to uniform regulations. The Coach shall liaise directly with the Director of Rowing in carrying out all duties. The specific tasks of the 1st Crew Coach are: 1. Coaching 2. Training Programs 3. Assist the DoR and HC to create and implement training programs for 3rd, 4th and 1st terms Assist the DoR and HC to create and implement training programs for Rowing Camps Selection 4. Develop an understanding of the overall rowing program and knowledge of the students involved Attend all water training sessions for the 1st Crew Take responsibility for the behaviour and welfare of the students under their care and referring any matters to the DoR to attend and play a pivotal role in the running of rowing camps to teach a technique consistent with current Victorian and Australian ideals. Provide feedback to the DoR regarding selection choices for regattas Regattas Attend all Regattas. Assist with logistical preparations for Regattas including: Boat loading and unloading Liaison with the DoR and Head Coach regarding requirements for regattas Provide guidance which ensures appropriate student behaviour and sportsmanship during training and competition in accordance with the Genazzano FCJ College ethos 2013/2014 1st Crew Coach Role Description 5. Relation to other Coaches As a senior coach, the 1st Crew Coach has a leadership position in the coaching team and is expected to support and the direction of the program and help foster a team atmosphere amongst the coaches. In addition the 1st Crew Coach is required to: Work closely with the DoR, HC and Junior Coordinator in determining the direction of the program To assist the DoR in providing coaching direction for all the coaches. To assist the coaches in improving their coaching skills and knowledge. Report any issues arising from coaches to the Director of Rowing. 6. Communication with Parents 7. Communication to parents must be done in consultation with the Director of Rowing. Transportation At times throughout the season, the Coach will be required to transport students in the College busees. A Light rigid licence must therefore be obtained. 8. Key Selection Criteria Experience and expertise in both sculling and sweep coaching Well developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team Understanding of the pastoral and duty of care responsibilities involved in coaching students Proven reliability and dependability Ability to act as a role model supportive of the College ethos Ability to mentor less experienced rowing coaches 9. Qualifications and Requirements The Coach is expected to attain, and keep updated the following qualifications and requirements: Level 2 First Aid NCAS Level 2 Rowing Heavy Endorsed Drivers Licence (24 Seat Bus Licence) Recreational motor boat Licence Working with Children Check Criminal Record Check 10. Conditions of Employment The hours of duty vary from term to term. However, for half of 3rd term, the coach will coach three sessions per week including weekend work. In Term 4 and 1, the position will coach four sessions per week plus additional weekend work at Regattas. Salary and general conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Victorian Catholic Schools Award, with all relevant leave and loading provisions applicable. Salary will be based on skills and experience and salary sacrifice options are available. August 2013
