A beverage carton recycling project organized by Tetra Pak and Nestle
The project works by teaming up with community organizations and recycling used cartons
into new products to directly support their work.
The name ‘CAREton’ is a combination of the word ‘CARE’ and ‘CARTON’, pronounced as
Kârtn.
Aims to provide a platform to people from all walks of life to help local communities in need
just by recycling their used cartons – CARE for the Planet, CARE for the People.
First launched in 2012, CAREton provided 10,000 exercise books and 100 pieces of school
furniture made of over 329,000 recycled cartons to Dignity for Children Foundation, an
education organization that supports the urban poor children in Kuala Lumpur.
In 2013, people donated 3.62 million cartons to CAREton, enough to be recycled into 460
roofing tiles for 10 new homes, then donated to EPIC Homes, a social enterprise that provides
rural housing for Orang Asli in need.
With such a strong growing support, Tetra Pak and Nestle has decided to continue working
with EPIC Homes throughout 2014. The project will run all year long, and our target this year
is to collect 5 million used beverage cartons to produce 690 roofing tiles for 15 homes.
To contribute to the CAREton Project, drop off your used cartons at any of the collection
points under the CAREton Partners network. Use our Carton Finder to find your nearest
collection point at www.recycle-easy.com.my .
Here are a few things that you might like to know about The CAREton Project:
Did you know that…

Beverage cartons can be made into roofing tiles?
FACT: Tetra Pak beverage cartons are 75% paper, 20% plastic, 5% aluminium & 100%
recyclable!
At the beverage carton recycling facility, the hydrapulper processing separates the paper
(pulp) from the plastic and aluminium (Poly Al). The pulp is sent to a paper making facility,
whereas the Poly Al is sent to a hot press facility. At the Poly Al hot press facility, the Poly Al
mix is processed into flat panel boards. Grooves are inserted while the boards cool down
(post-hot press) to create roofing tiles. Visit From Drink Packs to Dream Homes for more
details.

There are more than 210 collection points under the CAREton Partners network
accessible to the public?
FACT: The CAREton Project is supported by various organizations, from hotels to schools,
charity organizations to offices by providing collection points. Some are for internal collection
purposes, but those that are open to the public can be found on our Carton Finder map on


The CAREton Project is 100% for charity purposes?
FACT: All collected used cartons under The CAREton Project will be sent to a dedicated
beverage carton recycling facility in Klang, operated and owned by KPT Recycle S/B. The
collected cartons will be processed into roofing tiles at this facility. These roofing tiles will then
be handed over to EPIC Homes at the end of the year once we’ve tabulated and finalized the
achievement results of The CAREton Project. EPIC Homes will then use the roofing tiles for
their home building initiatives for the Orang Asli in need. . For more information, visit Building

Recycling under The CAREton Project is as easy as 1, 2, 3…
Here’s how you can start contributing to the CAREton Project in three very simple steps:
1. Rinse and don’t forget to Flip-Flap-Flat your cartons before recycling.
This helps to keep away pests and odour, saves space in your bin and helps keep trucks off
the road.
2. Place your flattened cartons in a separate recycling bin, if possible, from other
recyclables. This is to prevent contamination, ensure easy collection and eliminate sorting
costs at collection centres.
