If your members are serious about diverting more from their waste streams, have a Zero Waste goal or want to become a “greener” city, you should encourage them to look into adding cartons to their recycling program.
Carton recycling is quickly growing in the U.S. with more than 8,400 communities currently providing this service.
Adding cartons can help a community reach their diversion goals, generate new revenue and is made easy with support and resources from the
Carton Council. Your members need to know about the opportunities and benefits from carton recycling!
The Carton Council makes it as easy as possible for your members to add cartons to their programs. They will collaborate with communities to:
Find and support economically viable solutions for accepting cartons
Provide education support to help inform local residents about cartons and to grow the local carton recycling stream
Promote local leadership within the industry as a best practice towards increasing diversion from landfills and supporting Zero Waste initiatives
Make sure your members know that many communities already accept cartons and the list is growing! This is a powerful movement that they want to be part of. Currently, more than
50% of U.S. households have access to carton recycling, including New York, Los Angeles,
Philadelphia, Dallas, Milwaukee,
Minneapolis, Denver, Louisville,
Arlington and San Diego.
Cartons are highly recyclable. They provide high-quality, valuable fiber. In 2011, a new PSI specification, grade #52, was created for aseptic and gable top cartons. There are strong, end markets for grade #52!
The Carton Council is a group of carton manufacturers united to deliver long term collaborative solutions in order to divert valuable cartons from landfills.
