Start running down perishable and frozen foods

Make a note of any fragile items that may need special care to move.

Check any moving instructions for your washing machine with manufacturer.

Gas cylinders should be purged and will not be removed unless proof of purging.

Organise schooling, preschool transfers.
2-3 weeks to go

Contact all relevant authorities to notify of your new address.

Return hired items library books, videos

Arrange for children and pets to be minded on the day of moving.

Arrange move of boat / trailer.

Ensure the new location will be thoroughly cleaned before your move and also arrange cleaning of your
original home after your move.
1 week to go

Set aside bed linens, towels to be used on the first night so beds can be made up as soon as possible on
the day of moving.

Draw up a plan of each room in your new home with furniture placement for your removal company
supervisor.

Indoor plants should be lightly watered and packed into plastic lined boxes.

Cancel home deliveries e.g. newspaper, milk.

Cancel services lawn mower, cleaner.

Drain lawn mower of petrol

Redirect mail through local Post Office. Can be arranged online

Prepare an 'Essentials' carton that contains important items such as remote controls, shelf supports, keys,
telephone and computer charger, telephone handset, furniture assembly screws , bolts and instructions
2 Days to go

Complete your 'SURVIVAL' carton eg medications, first-aid kit, child’s favorite toy, toiletries, paper plates,
kettle, coffee cups, cutlery, tea, coffee, milk, torch, screwdriver, hammer, dog’s lead, pet food and bowls, baby
needs, children’s sleep wear and school needs, work clothes and essentials for the following day.

Collect dry cleaning.

Arrange parking and access for removal trucks

Organise access details and key collection for your new location.

Disconnect Foxtel connections and arrange reconnect for new location

Defrost, empty and clean refrigerator and freezer.
1 day to go

Collect keys for new location.
If scheduled, professional packers will arrive to pack up your household. Make sure you leave out essential
items for that evening and the following morning.

Prepare bags / cartons with all items that you wish to transport yourselves. Place sticky notes on items that
the removers will NOT be moving.
Moving Day

Transport perishable food items in a cooler box.

Have a plan at hand for furniture placement in new location.

Have at hand your “SURVIVAL” carton.

Ensure gas and electricity meters have been read and utilities are disconnected.

Continue to check house / property for forgotten items as the truck is being loaded.

Turn off power.

Lock house, secure windows, activate alarm, and remember to leave keys as specified.
DIY Packing

Purchase packing material, cartons, tape, paper, markers, bubble wrap, TV cartons

Use clean white paper, not newspaper as it can stain items.

Label every carton clearly as to contents and its room destination

Dismantle furniture. Label and place screws and bolts in an “ESSENTIALS” carton.

Pack heavier items at the bottom of the box

Pack lighter items in large cartons, heavier items in small cartons.
