University Senate elections underway
The University Senate has launched a new round of elections for faculty senators. The nomination phase is currently open
and will continue until Friday (2/3); the ensuing election period will run Monday (2/6)-Wednesday (2/29). Results will be
announced on Thursday (3/1).
When elected, senators accept a three-year term of service. They join administrators and student representatives at the
meetings of the University Senate, presided over by President Gordon Gee, and attend the meetings of Faculty Council
(the faculty caucus of the Senate), which raises issues specific to faculty life on the campus. Senators are also asked to
serve on at least one of the 20 Senate committees. (See the University Senate website for a complete listing of
committees, their current membership, as well as a directory of current senators.) Contact: Jim Rathman or Tim Gerber

There have been several instances recently where the Graduate School has not been notified two weeks in advance of an
upcoming candidacy exam. The Notification of Candidacy Exam forms MUST be submitted to the Graduate School at
least two weeks before the proposed oral examination date. This time frame is essential so that graduation services staff
can validate the exam committee and resolve any potential problems. Forms will not be accepted outside of the two-week
notice, and any exam that takes place without prior clearance from the Graduate School will be invalidated. Contact: Tim
