Section 1
Responding to Medical Emergencies & Serious Injuries
We do the following when a child is seriously ill or injured and requires
attention from a health care provider or emergency response team:
1. Call 911
2. Notify the office immediately (send student runner to inform office and wait for emergency
response team)
3. Evacuate the immediate area to ensure that students are not unnecessarily exposed to
trauma.
4. Do not disturb any potential evidence.
5. Notify the family of the injured student or staff member.
6. Complete injury report
7. Contact Utah State Licensing within 24 hour period (only licensed facilities)
After 2:30
1. Call 911 and District Emergency at 801-402-7680, follow steps 2-7

Procedures for Fire, Earthquake, Flood, Power Failure, & Water
Failure
We will do the following if there is a fire in the building:
1. Leave the building immediately in orderly fashion, using designated exits. Take your roll book
with you.
2. Close the doors to the fire area after people are out.
3. Go to seminary building.
4. Account for all students and stay with them.
(In case of an evacuation, the director will be the last to evacuate taking emergency roll book
with him/her. If she is absent, the Early Childhood educator will assume this responsibility)
5. Remain in the designated area until notified of an “all clear”.
After 2:30
1. Call 911
2. Child Care Center will evacuate to city office building. The director, or acting director,
will be the last to evacuate taking emergency roll book with him/her.
3. Parents will be notified and a sign will be left on the front door of child care center
concerning evacuation procedures.
4. Contact custodial staff or call the District Emergency Number 801-402-7680
5. Refer all media to Community Relations at 801-402-5260
6. Remain in the designated area until notified of an “all clear”.

Emergency Shut off of Gas, Electricity & Water
The location and procedure for an emergency shut off of gas/ electricity
is as follows:
1. Contact custodial staff immediately (see number posted by phone)
2. Follow evacuation procedures if necessary
3 .Contact parents if the children's health or safety is compromised
4. Keep refrigerator/freezer closed as much as possible
5. See Administration for closure decisions, evacuate if needed.
After 2:30
1. Contact custodian or custodial staff (number posted by phone)
2. Call 801-402-5600 or 801-402-7680 for all power, telephone, water interruptions.
3. If you smell gas, evacuate the building and call 911 from a cell phone outside of the
building.
4. Follow evacuation procedures if necessary
5. Contact parents if the children's health or safety is compromised
6. Call District Building Controls at: 801-402-7680

Emergency Evacuation & Relocation
In the event that it becomes necessary to evacuate our building, staff and children will all go to
the following location:
Seminary Building
Should it become necessary to evacuate staff and children to this location, a notice will be
posted on the north side entrance of the child care training center. If the need for evacuation
occurs, we will walk to the seminary building. We will take the emergency roll-book with ALL
children's emergency contact information and an out of area/state emergency contact person
for the child, if available. A second copy of the emergency roll will be left at our safe place
location along with a 24 hour kit that will be made and stored at the seminary building and all
emergency supplies, including at least food, water, a first aid kit, one staff member will carry a
cell phone. All staff will remain with children until parents have been notified and children have
been picked up. If further staff is needed, the district office will be notified.

Lock Out:
1. Each teacher is assigned an outside door to lock class will proceed as normal and doors will
remain locked until the all clear sign is given.
*If it becomes apparent that the safest course of action is to use our emergency evacuation procedures
we will make the most logical choice to keep the children safe.
As part of our ongoing policy to keep our children safe all doors will remain locked after 2:30pm.

The role of all student teachers during an emergency:
Student teachers will follow all emergency procedures adopted by Layton High School.
Please be aware of these procedures and act accordingly. When taking children from the
center, please be aware of all emergency exits and surrounding areas. If unsure of the
emergency procedure, please contact center director at: 801-402-4930
Children with special needs:
Accommodations will be met on an individual basis during all evacuation procedures for
infants and children with special needs.
