ELEMENTS ,COMPOUNDS AND MIXTURES 1. Define the following terms in your own words: Atom:The smallest part of the matter that have the same proporties with matter. Molecule: The smallest particle of a substance that retains the chemical and physical properties of the substance and is composed of two or more atoms. Element:It is a pure substance that includes same kind of atoms. Please identify an element, and represent that element at the molecular level(please consider its physical state at room temperature). Compound:Substance which is composed of different kinds of elements that came together in a constant ratio and loose their own properties. Identify a compound, and please represent that compound at the molecular level. (Note: Please consider its physical state at room temperature). Pure Substance:Matter which is no impurities. Identify a pure substance, and please represent tahat pure substance at the molecular level. Mixture:Matter that can contain different kinds of atoms which comes together randomly Homogenous mixture:Mixture that has some apperarance in every part of the it and contains minimum 2 different kinds of atoms. Heterogeneous mixture:Mixture that doesn’t have same appearance in every part of it and it is easily visible. It contains again minimum 2 kinds of atoms. Identify a homogenous mixture, and please represent that homogenous mixture at the molecular level. (Please consider its physical state at room temperature.) Identify a heterogenous ,and please represent that heterogeneous mixture at the molecular level. (Please consider its physical state at room temperature.) Classifying Matter:A physical model using paper clips You will be provided teo sets of physical models that represent elements. Compounds and mixtures. You are supposed to classify given sets of physical model as element or compound and pure substance or mixture.
