Our calendar of events will now be posted there. Lots of information there on who and how to contact, pictures of our corps, link to contact the parent committee and for Vimy 2015. We will have our minutes of parent / Vimy meetings posted there in case you have missed one, or would like the information. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to use the email link on the site to contact the parent committee. We will be checking it all the time, and will forward it to the appropriate person on the committee. 3. League Report: Honor officer was chosen from Meyerthorpe, and Honor Cadet from Edmonton. Small Bore competition is almost closed (Friday) 8/39 corps are participating and from the submissions from GP they look VERY good. Top shooting awards to be presented at our Annual Cadet Review. May 3 is the provincial drill competition, GP is not attending. PPCLI will choose 1 cadet (silver star or greater rank) 4. CO’s Report: The Duke of Edinburgh award is for Canadian Citizens age 14-25. This is a prestigious award that is recognized around the world. For a cadet, this award is very easy to accomplish and complete as we do volunteer work and activities that can be used towards the award. Even going to summer camp counts towards the award! The cost is $30 per level (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and Cpt. Shewchuk encourages our cadets to take this opportunity. The marksmanship team just completed shooting competition for Air Rifle for the LER. The targets have been mailed in for scoring. The Swan City Rotary Club has contacted us, and we now have a liason with the club: Shayne Wallis. He gave us an introduction to the club and told us they want to have an ongoing sponsorship with our corps. They meet every Wednesday, they have approx. 150 members. Shayne encouraged us to apply for funding as they have some funds already earmarked for us. Application is online. Cpt. Shewchuk told us about the news report that DND will cut ½ of the administrative positions currently operating for cadets over the next few months. We don’t know how this re-allocation of funds will affect the administration that we as staff currently use, but it will be great for the cadets. Cpt. Shewchuk will advocate for the return of the cadet handbooks for each star level, as the cadets currently have to take notes if they are to retain the information. Uniform budget is still on a freeze. We had a company who makes awards / plaques contact us that would like our business. In the past we have stayed with local businesses, but we have run into some snags, and we would like to see what this option might look like. They sent a sample of their work and the quality is there. **Sharon is to check to see how much we have paid in the past. Our Marksmanship team went to Wetaskawin for provincials. They used an electronic target that was pretty amazing. Cpt. Shewchuk likes it a lot and sees a benefit to our corps. Because it’s electronic, the cadets can know their score immediately, and the set up and take-down would be minimal, compared to the set-up we are currently using. They would also make a great addition to our new building concept. Cpt. Shewchuk had a quote for 2 units; approx. $16,000 all inclusive. We have been offered the chance to purchase Cadet Year Books, however after discussion with the current media we have (Facebook & SmugMug) we feel this is unnecessary. Upcoming events: April 25-27 Level 5 cadets to Edmonton for training April 25-27 NAV FTX at Pineridge for Green, Red and Gold stars. Timing / more information will follow in an email. May 3rd the Wapiti Gun Club has asked us to volunteer again for a shoot they are hosting. They will make a donation to us for our time. May 2-3: Music Level testing May 10th: County roadside clean up May 11th (Mother’s Day) the Brian Harms Race in the morning. May 16-19: Jasper trip. We will be leaving GP at approx. 8:30am, so some students will miss a day of school. More information to follow. May 30-June 1st: Silver Star Expo June 7th: ACR (Annual Cadet Review) June 11th: Municipal Day. We have been asked to volunteer, but this is also exam time, and after the ACR, so this will need further discussion. June 13th-15th: Wapiti Gun Club has asked for us to volunteer again this weekend. Again, not mandatory because our cadets will have officially ended for the year. July 1st: Canada Day Parade – the City has asked us to participate in full uniform for the parade as it’s the 100th Anniversary of the City, as well as military week. They would like a large military presence. 5. Treasurer’s Report Financials as stated in the attached report. Back in September we voted to spend $2000 for shelving on our Cadet truck. However, we have spent just over that, mostly on repairs of the truck. There was discussion on the AMVIC inspection as Mr. Shewchuk is a mechanic and just after we purchased the truck he discovered many mechanical issues that needed addressed. He has worked very hard with the help of some parents to get the truck road worthy, and still has a little work to do in maintenance. The shelving project is about ½ way complete and we need to discuss more funding allotted to the truck. Rueben Moberly was nominated (2nd Shelly Gertsmeyer) to go back to Astro Car and Truck Sales for compensation for the repairs that should have been done before we purchased the truck. Dawn Bilideau motioned that we spend a max of another $2000 towards repairs and interior finishing. Any more would need to come back to the parent committee for approval. (2nd by Vanessa Shannon). Motion Passed. 6. Fundraising Chair Report: May 10th we will participate in the County Roadside Clean-up day – we have been given the county land fill, where it’s a lump sum donation of $3000 for our corps. We will need 40+ people participating in order to get this done. Please mark your schedules. Dawn will go to the county 1 week before to pick up supplies. Brian Harms run: we will volunteer to cheer the runners on, block traffic. There are prizes for the loudest and most enthusiastic cheering, so bring cow bells or any noise makers for this event. We are very excited to have the Swan City Rotary teaming up with us in financial support for the future. We will submit the application for funding ASAP. Next Meeting scheduled for May 14th at 6:45pm. Meeting adjourned at 7:52pm.
