Johali ABSTRACT Innovation of Health and Holistic Health the First Step Understanding and Redefine Our Health ABSTRACT Innovation of Health and Holistic Health Johali Step Understanding and Redefine Our Health 1St Johali Paper Accepted by IJAS Barcelona Spain from 16 to 19 June 2014 AUTHOR/S: Eisa Ali Johali RESEARCH ID: B4R40 the International Journal of Arts & Sciences’ (IJAS) International Conference for Academic Disciplines which will be held at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona's Casa Convalescencia campus at Sant Antoni Maria Claret 171, Barcelona, Spain, from 16 to 19 June 2014. Background World Health Organization's (WHO's) definition of "health”; The most famous modern definition of health was created during a Preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organization as adopted by the International Health Conference, New York, 19-22 June, 1946; signed on 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100) and entered into force on 7 April 1948. "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." The definition has not been amended since 1948, therefore it is widely criticized (Martin 1991; Micka 1973; Smith 1990; and The Lancet 2009). During the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion in 1986, the WHO said that health is: "A resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities." The Lancet states that "health is not a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Neither is it "merely the absence of disease or infirmity". The article says "the WHO definitions of health will not do in an era marked by new understandings of disease at molecular, individual, and societal levels" (The Lancet 2009). The word “health” is so entrenched in our culture. Do we make up a new word? String together old words with new meaning?. Lissa R. ( 2011) says : So clearly, while physical and mental health are important, they’re not enough. Whole health is way bigger than that. If we’re going to join together to transform the world of health care, if we really want to help people heal from the core, rather than just slapping a Band-Aid on something, we need to expand the definition of health. http://lissarankin.com/expanding-the-definition-of-health Defining health is essential not only to assure the credibility and quality of education but also it is essential in planning and developing poplar health care services. The above briefly literature review approve the need for expanding and redefining health. While we are keeping use the WHO definition with its three limited dimensions, we teach wide aspects of health related dimensions, factors and boundaries. As a result of this limit, the educationists, researchers and practitioners tend to use other correlated terms such as 'holistic and wellness" that have broad definitions and boundaries.
