Lesson phase Teacher action Learner activity Orientation The teacher will do a quick recap on the previous lesson taught namely problem solving cycle by asking several key questions. She will also mark the homework given in the previous lesson. Exposition The teacher will officially introduce the learners to the problem solving techniques. The teacher will give the learners an overview of the 12 problem solving techniques. Learner’s textbooks to remain closed at this stage of the lesson. After the teacher has given an overview of the problem solving techniques she will instruct the learners to open their textbooks on The learners will respond to the teachers questions by means of answers. Learners will show the teacher proof of their homework and will also provide their answers. The learners will listen attentively to the overview that the teacher will provide on problem solving techniques. The learners will take out their via Afrika textbooks as instructed by the teacher and make notes as they follow in their textbooks. The teacher will hand out a worksheet that learner are to complete in the pairs that they were divided in. Learners textbooks to be closed during this stage of the lesson. The teacher will divide learners into small groups of 3-4 learners and provide learners each group with a scenario/problem that they have to solve using one of the five problem solving techniques taught during the lesson. Learners are to decide which problem solving technique would be best to solve their problem and role play and or present that chosen technique. See annexure B Application Learners will move into their pairs as divided by the teacher. Learners will close their textbooks as instructed by the teacher. They will start with the worksheet.
