Ski trip across Keivy Ridge.
String of a route:
settlement. Island - river Lylyok - river Adiyok - river Komvey - river Tayvey - the
lake Karmannikum Semiostrovye's natural boundary - the mountain Mica - river
Kulyok of the lake of Efimozero - the settlement Lovozero.
At the request of participants of a campaign the route can be changed a little.
Extent: 270-280 km.
Time of carrying out campaign and duration: from February 28 to March 14
2015g.14 days (11 running days + 3 day's rests).
To a place of the beginning of a route (BUT Island) we reach by Claudia
Elanskaya motor ship.
Accommodation conditions: the most part of spending the night in winter tents
with an oven, some spending the night "cold" in a treeless zone and some spending
the night in reindeer-breeding lodges.
Approximate program of a campaign.
1st day: a zabroska by steamship "Claudia Elanskaya" to a place of the beginning
of a route (BUT Island).
2nd day: arrival in Island, packing of backpacks, adjustment of equipment, having
a snack and a start of motion.
The 3rd – the 13th day: early rise, a breakfast, a start of motion along a route.
Lunch (having a snack or hot), movement on a route. With nightfall installation of
camp, a dinner and a release.
14th day: early rise, a breakfast, a start of motion along a route. Lunch, arrival in
the village Lovozero. Departure to Murmansk or on \д the station Apatity.
Necessary equipment:
1. A backpack (it is better semifixed): from water-repellent fabric – the kordur
type, capacity 90-130l.
2. A sleeping bag ("cocoon" from a holofayber or down) + a compression bag.
3. A rug from polyurethane foam.
4. Skis of type of "Beskids", skitura, "Tourist" or analog. Fastenings semifixed
type "Universal"
5. Ski sticks (with big rings).
6. Footwear: it is best of all working leather boots with a rigid sole, a wide sock
and a thick insole, laces kapron.
7. Boot covers: protect boots from a namokaniye, keep heat. Are sewed from
kapron or plashchevy fabric have to "breathe", height to a knee.
8. A storm suit (from kapron or a gorteks): we recommend jackets like "anorak",
has to "breathe" and protect from a wind.
9. Sponge: has to be warm, with a hood, long to the middle of a hip.
10. Next-to-skin layered clothing: has to take away moisture from a body, we

11. Sweater (1 or 2): from wool or a polartek.

Description of the region of a campaign: this district is interesting by the
wildness, a netronutost. Except BUT. Island and villages Lovozero (the beginning
and the end of a route), inhabited settlements aren't present.
Yokange many ethnographers and researchers mention in the works. The first
mention of the Iokangsky country churchyard belongs to 1574. Some sources
claim that this name came from the Lappish words: "иок" and "anga" - a gentle
slope. The settlement Ioknga located on a joint of two seas – Barents and White,
has rich history. In 1938 the village Iokanga was renamed into Gremikhu. The new
name received the village from the big rapids stream following from Rombozer.
Since 1957 Gremikh is got by the status of the working settlement. Because of
severe climate and almost not stopping strong winds inhabitants nicknamed the
city – the city of "the flying dogs". Since 1982 Gremikh it is renamed in BUT the
city Island.
Keivy Ridge, the name of south country of the platoobrazny plain extended from
the northwest from the lake Seyavr (Efimozero) to the Throat of the White Sea
raised in the form of a ridge (length about 200 km). Height to 397 m Keivy Ridge
is divided by numerous gorges and deep valleys into separate sites, massifs
(Shuururt, Yagelyurt, Nyukhchurt, Valyurt, etc.). Lichen tundra. The ridge Keivy
Ridge is a watershed of river systems of the Barents and White seas.
The village Lovozero – the center of the Lappish culture. On Lappish Lovozero –
Luyavvrsyyyt (the village at the strong lake). The name happened from the Lake
Lovozero which is the second-large lake on the Kola Peninsula. In 1999 Lovozero
solemnly celebrated the 425th anniversary.
From wild animals on a route the group can meet deer, a glutton and a fox, from
birds – partridges and a polar owl.
