Routine Weekly ELA Assignments
These assignments are given on Monday, or the first day we are in school for the week. The students have
time to work on these assignments in class throughout the week; however, students will be expected to
complete the assignments for homework if necessary. All completed assignments should be kept in the
Routine Weekly ELA Assignment Folder. We will check these together in class on Thursday.
*Assignments are due on Thursdays.
Students should spend time studying Spelling words, as well as Greek and Latin Root words, for the tests
that will be given on Friday, or the last day we are in school for the week.
1. Spelling Words - Students will receive a list of Spelling words on Monday, as well as Spelling
Activity Sheets.
a. Write each word, one time each, in print and cursive. These should be written on loose-leaf
notebook paper.
b. Students will be assigned a writing activity to complete with some, or all, of their spelling words.
This writing assignment should be completed on loose-leaf notebook paper.
c. Complete the Spelling Activity Sheets given with the Spelling words each week.
d. Study the spelling of each word in preparation for the Spelling test on Friday.
*Spelling Test is on Friday, or the last day we are in school for the week.
2. Language Activity - Complete the Language Activity Sheet - (DOL-Daily Oral Language)
3. Research Activity - Complete the Research Activity Sheet - if assigned.
*Assignments #1(a-d) - #3 are due on Thursday, and should be kept in the ELA Routine Weekly
Assignment Folder. We will go over these in class together.
*The ELA Routine Weekly Assignment Folder should be kept in the Accordion Folder.
4. Greek and Latin Root Words - Ten Greek and Latin Root words are assigned for the week. We
will go over the root word, the meaning, examples, and complete activities in class. The students
will make Greek and Latin Root Word Study Cards on Monday to help them prepare for the test.
Note cards are provided for their use. The root word will be given on the test, they need to know
the meaning, and be able to write the meaning on the test.
*The Greek and Latin Root Word List, and the Greek and Latin Root Word Study Cards should
be kept in the Greek and Latin Root Word Folder.
*The Greek and Latin Root Word List, and the Greek and Latin Root Word Study Cards should
be kept in the Accordion Folder.
*Students may have additional assignments, ELA and/or Social Studies, to complete in addition to the
Routine Weekly ELA Assignments. Students are responsible for writing these in their Student Agenda,
and sharing them with their parents.
